Of course you'll want to steer clear of ANYTHING with stain potential on your wedding day—chocolate, red wine, freshly cut grass—but here's a not-so-obvious culprit: pollen. Specifically, the super-potent pollen found in lilies. See the brown fuzzy things that look like long, skinny coffee beans on the way-pretty flowers below? Those are covered in pollen that will stain your wedding dress in about two seconds flat.
Any florist worth her gardening shears knows to pull off the pollen-y bits, of course. The problem comes when there are closed-up buds in your bouquet that open up right before you walk down the aisle. Then the pollen-y bits are just sitting there, WAITING to splatter brown spots all over your wedding dress.
The solution: If you'll have lilies in your wedding bouquet (or centerpieces) double-check that your florist will remove the pollen-y parts. And designate a bridesmaid to be on the lookout for any closed buds that will need snipping BEFORE she hands you your wedding bouquet.
Would you use lilies at your wedding? Were you aware of what a big ol' mess they can make?!
