It's easy to understand why lots of modern brides shy away from wearing a veil: You don't want to look like you're dragging two miles of fabric behind you down the aisle. Plus, it seems like it would be easy to get lost in all that tulle, right? And still, I think every bride should at least try a veil when she's wedding dress shopping. (And wedding tastemaker Randy Fenoli says wearing a veil is a must.) There are just so many styles to choose from, I'm certain there's a veil for every bride. Yes, even you. Here's a primer:
BIRDCAGE VEILJust covers your face.
En Paris Veil from Enchanted Atelier.
FLYAWAY VEILFalls just below your shoulders.
Maxine Two-Tier Flyaway Veil from Etsy seller JesseCiani.
ELBOW-LENGTH VEILGoes down to your elbows.
Ariel Taub Bella Veil from Kleinfeld.
FINGERTIP VEILGrazes your fingertips.
White by Vera Wang Two-Tier Mid Length Veil with Horsehair and Lace from David's Bridal.
BALLET- OR WALTZ-LENGTH VEILFalls at about ankle-length.
CHAPEL-LENGTH VEILHas a not-too-crazy train.
Montegue from Tony Federici for Watters.
CATHEDRAL-LENGTH VEILDrags way behind you.
French Alencon Cathedral-Length Veil from Etsy seller fascinatingbride.
Just keep in mind that a longer veil signals a more formal wedding (and vice versa) so you probably don't need a cathedral-length veil for your city hall wedding—and, a birdcage veil might be a little too low-key for a black-tie affair.
Are you planning on wearing a veil on your wedding day? Which one of these is your favorite?
