Hi, ladies. Kim here. We’re thrilled to welcome back Stacy Tasman to share another one of the amazing proposal stories from her site, How He Asked. If you missed the first one, check it out: There’s a dog, and you will get chills. And don’t miss the second—which started with the prettiest tulle skirt—here. The How He Asked story below is told by Kenna, who’s now a bride-to-be.
How we met
Conner and I met in high school, my junior year and his senior year, in chemistry class. I knew who he was because he was the basketball star, but I didn’t think he knew who I was because I was just another girl on the soccer team. But he did know who I was! I was too scared to talk to him, and my chemistry teacher must’ve known that because she sat us next to each other three times in a row. I was very grateful. I remember tweeting something about Conner a couple of days later and he favorited it (so yes, I made the first move;). I think that’s what got us talking! A couple days later we had a take-home test in chemistry, and Conner direct-messaged me asking for my help, of course I helped him cause I had the biggest crush on him. Later that night he asked me for my number, and from then on we hung out almost every day until he left on his two-year mission for our church. On his mission we wrote every week and then when he came home we started hanging out again and a couple months later he asked me to be his girlfriend and now, after, five and a half months of dating, we’re engaged!
How he asked
Before I even start, I had an idea that Conner was going to propose the night he did, so he through me for a couple curve balls. Conner picked me up for dinner on Saturday night and we went to one of my favorite restaurants {He had his friends filming everywhere we went } and after we were done we got in the car and he took my phone and then asked me to put a blindfold on. We ended up at an ice cream shop where we got dessert. After we were done we walked back to the car and he opened my door and got down on one knee and said, “Kenna will you help me tie my shoe?” WHAT? I said, “Oh my gosh no get in the car.” I put back on my blindfold and we drove for awhile and then parked.
He came to the passenger side and carried me into a house and we walked downstairs. He had put up lights on the ceiling and had red balloons hanging down as well. We sat down on the couch and he played a video of us of all the pictures we have taken together. He got me up and got down on his knee and said, “Kenna will you eat this ring pop?” UGH. I said, “What the heck. No I wont!” We walked upstairs and his mom brought us over to the table where she had laid out pictures of his niece and then the rest of his family came over and started talking with us. I totally thought it wasn’t going to happen that night. Conner said, “OK, time to go!” I put the blindfold on again and we drove uphill almost the whole time, so I thought we were going up the canyon. He parked the car and got out and got me and we started walking on an icy pathway.
A couple minutes went by until I heard our song “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri playing and then I knew that it was totally going to happen! Conner sat me down on a bench covered with a blanket and told me to take my blindfold off.
I took it off and in front of me there was the most handsome boy and most gorgeous ring I have ever seen! He said some cute things and I said yes! The set up was phenomenal. A rose petal walkway with lanterns to light the way along with a chalkboard that said, “MaKenna will you marry me?” and of course a beautiful view of the city lights down below!
