Two weeks shy of his one-year wedding anniversary, George Clooney stepped onto the Late Show stage to chat with brand-new host Stephen Colbert about married life with human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin.
“They said it wouldn't last,” George joked, with Stephen asking how it felt to be "the arm candy in the relationship” for once.
“Because she’s a very serious person,” Stephen prompted. “She must say, ‘We’re going to meet some extremely intelligent people tonight.’”
“Shiny and pretty. That's mostly what I do now,” the leading man replied.
Stephen also gifted the newlyweds with a belated wedding gift—a Tiffany & Co. paperweight engraved “I don’t know you”—and reminded the groom that he did not make the couple’s list.
“That’s just to remind you that we don't know each other," said the host, adding he didn't want to “do the celebrity thing” and feign friendship.
