We learned this morning that Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed were married yesterday—click here for details—so of course I’ve been stalking the itty-bitty, blurry paparazzi photos trying to figure out the designer behind her wedding dress.
My initial thought was Claire Pettibone—the allover lace and the easy silhouette are very Claire, and Nikki’s dress kind of looks like the Adeline. The back of that dress is very covered-up though.
Today in trust-your-first-instinct news: I just confirmed that Nikki Reed’s wedding dress was designed by Claire Pettibone. The reason I couldn’t find it on her site: It’s a custom gown. Here’s a picture of Claire’s Adeline gown, which is similar to Nikki’s, but with a much more open back:
Because of the way the lace is positioned on the illusion bodice, my second guess was Monique Lhuillier, but you can see the back (or lack thereof) of Nikki’s dress here, and Monique’s designs typically do not tread so low. My next through was Reem Acra, who loves her some lace and a low-cut back, but I couldn’t find anything that quite matched on her site. I also checked Zuhair Murad (check out this dress) and Inbal Dror, but I didn’t feel like either of those were quite right, either.
So the next step in my “detective” work was to track down the designers Nikki seems to favor, and Marchesa popped up a few times. (Here in October and here at the Breaking Dawn premiere.) Which is how I came up with this:
That Photoshop atrocity is a combination of the three dresses below, the bodice of the dress on the left, the sleeves of the dress in the center, and the skirt of the dress on the right. And if Nikki went couture, adding that cut-to-there rear view wouldn’t have been a problem.
So did Nikki Reed wear a Marchesa wedding dress?
Your guess is as good as mine. Although mine might be slightly better, because I’ve thought really, really hard about it. Clearly.
