If you ask me, fake lashes are the second best part of getting dolled up for your wedding (next to the dress, of course). Unlike on other days, you can get professional help putting them on, and there are no worries about them looking too obvious—your eyes are supposed to look larger-than-life and dramatic. I got lash extensions for my own wedding, but for those of you considering the stick-on kind, here's a brand-new option: Nars' first-ever faux lashes. The collection launches May 1 with eight natural-looking styles, and we asked one of the brand's makeup stylists, Eric Holt, to share some tips on which would work best for different brides.
Glamour: Which of the new Nars lashes do you think would be best for a bride who wants a really subtle, realistic look?
Holt: I love the Numero 7 because it's well balanced, with a natural length and clean separation. My trick is to take one lash [strip], cut it exactly in half, and use just the flared end pieces for a subtle lift on the outer corners. The remaining lash can be saved for a bridesmaid!
Glamour: How about for the bride who’s going for a more dramatic eye, for example a retro look involving liquid black liner? Which lash style would you suggest for her?
Holt: In this case, I would use the Numero 3 because of its graduated lengths. The extra length at the outer ends lends itself perfectly to a vintage-inspired eye with a classic winged liner.
Glamour: How about an ultra-romatic lash look that’s noticeable but still soft?
Holt: Try the Numero 5. The dramatic curl keeps these lashes looking very romantic yet wispy and delicate at the same time.
Glamour: Is there a lash style you think would be the best one-look-fits-all choice that would work on nine out of 10 brides?
Holt: Without a doubt, the Numero 1 is the perfect lash for any bride, designed by Mr. Nars himself to complement any eye shape. We call this the little black dress of lashes. It's sure to be our most popular lash of all.
