Loads of celebrities swapped vows in 2014, but which celeb weddings were the most memorable? Here’s my countdown of the eight most awesome:
8. Solange Knowles& Alan Ferguson
Bey’s baby sister kept her engagement way under wraps: We didn’t find out that she and longtime boyfriend Alan Ferguson were set to marry until a week before they swapped vows. Solange scored major fashion points for her bridal trousseau, which included the most impeccable caped wedding pantsuit.
7. Olivia Palermo& Johannes Huebl
This relatively low-key summer wedding sparked an instantaneous (and utterly original) bridal trend: wedding shorts with overskirts. Here’s my favorite take on the trend—one romper, three ways—from Elizabeth Stuart.
6. Neil Patrick Harris& David Burtka
After being engaged for almost a decade, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were married in September in Italy. Pam Fryman, the longtime director of How I Met Your Mother, officiated. And the couple’s twins, Harper Grace and Gideon Scott, took place in the ceremony.
5. Jessica Simpson& Eric Johnson
Engaged since November of 2010, Jessica and Eric twice delayed their wedding before marrying this summer. First they waited to welcome daughter Maxwell Drew, who was born in 2012, and then again for the arrival of son Ace Knute last summer. Fun fact: Jessica’s gold wedding dress was designed by Carolina Herrera, who also designed Olivia Palermo’s bridal ensemble.
It was the wedding heard ’round the world: Before Kim’s butt broke the internet, her international wedding to Kanye West almost did the same. With 2.4 million likes, the couple’s “first kiss” picture is still the most-liked picture in Instagram’s history.
3. Lauren Conrad& William Tell
Save the Date readers were smitten with Lauren Conrad and William Tell’s apple-themed nuptials: from the bride’s dress and its 10-foot train to the bridesmaid dresses from Lauren’s own Paper Crown label to the white-on-white reception. I spent an entire afternoon overanalyzing the 30-plus photos in Lauren and William’s wedding album.
Annnnnd it’s a two-way tie for the No. 1 spot. Both weddings shocked me (for different reasons) and both were insanely awesome in their own ways. So here’s your No. 1. And your other No. 1.
Together for nine years and engaged for two, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie could have gone the rest of their lives without getting married, and no one would have been surprised. But marry they did, in a small, ultra-private wedding in France, surrounded by their six children—who also helped design Angelina’s wedding dress.
1. George Clooney&Amal Alamuddin
When news broke that permabachelor George Clooney was engaged to some lawyer, I didn’t flinch. Because I assumed it was tabloid rumor. But the rumor was true—and silver fox George went ahead and shocked the world when he married for the second time in September. Oh, and that lawyer, Amal Alamuddin, gets more headlines than her groom these days, thanks to her ultra-sophisticated style. (A bag was just named after her.)
What’s your pick for the most awesome celebrity wedding in 2014?
