Now Here's a Last-Minute Wedding Beauty Snafu You've Never Even Thought About (What Should This Bride Do?)

My college partner-in-crime Allison is getting married this weekend, and she's so hyper-organized and naturally beautiful that I am certain it'll all go off without a hitch, and she'll be the picture of perfection. However, she is having one small-but-irksome last-minute beauty challenge that I'm trying to help her solve.

The situation: Allison rented diamond earrings from Adorn (I did the same for my wedding—see me model several sets of bling here). But only when they arrived yesterday and she tried them on did she remember how her ear holes react badly to earrings sometimes, getting instantly red and irritated. I experience the same thing, even after several decades of having pierced ears, and I bet lots of brides encounter this last-minute glitch; if you don't change up your earrings often, it's easy to forget about your sensitivity until you try to wear a new pair for your big day.

To help Allison out, I emailed a couple of my favorite dermatologist sources to see what emergency beauty advice they'd dispense. What Allison is experiencing is probably an allergic reaction, replied Ranella Hirsch, M.D. "Any mixed metal likely contains nickel, which can be the source of the allergy," she said, suggesting that Allison visit a jewelry store and get some platinum backs to put on the earrings to help minimize the issue (these could be re-used on other culprit earrings in the future, too). Dr. Diane Berson suggested applying ice and then cortisone cream to zap swelling and redness.

I'll let you know how things work out; here's hoping Allison gets to rock her beautiful wedding bling, but even bare-eared, she'd look perfect.

Do any of you have sensitivity to earrings? Got any short-term fixes to share with Allison? Also, what kind of last-minute beauty snafus did you ladies experience before your weddings? Share below!
