Crop-top wedding dresses have only been a thing for a few seasons now: I first spotted them on the runways last April and came to terms with their growing popularity a month later. When a chic real bride nailed a crop-top wedding dress in August (and Ashlee Simpson followed suit a few weeks later), I figured the trend would stick around for a while. But it’s taken a dramatic turn, um, up. While the first bride-specific crop tops showed just a hint of skin—barely two inches around the mid-ribs—Reem Acra’s take on the trend is WAY more brazen.

The twisty thing around her neck is a flower garland; it’s not part of the dress.

BAM. ABS.
And I’m still pretty OK with it all. I mean, look, probably only .01 percent of the population would have the six-pack AND the confidence to walk down the aisle in these dresses—especially the first two. But if ab-flashing is your game, it’s your day. And I like when wedding dress trends take their cue from the ready-to-wear runways. Your wedding day doesn’t exist in a time bubble, so why not wear something of-the-moment? Sure, this dress probably isn’t for a bride whose ceremony’s in a house of worship or one who’ll be surrounded by all of her extended family on her wedding day. (Great Aunt Rita would faint, no?) But if you’re getting married on an island a deux or surrounded by just a few close friends, I say: Go there.
Would you wear one of Reem Acra’s new crop-top wedding dresses? Or is that pushing the line a little too far for you?
