Wondering what was hot on the wedding-dress runways this season? Based on my bridal market observations, here's what's in store for brides who'll walk down the aisle next fall:
TREND: BLUE DRESSES WITH SPARKLES
TRENDSETTER:Frozen’s ELSA
From left: Theia, Claire Pettibone, Pamela Rolland.
WHY I’M SURPRISED: Lots of girls want to feel like a princess on their wedding day, but these dresses are downright Disney-inspired. I expected an Elsa dress from Alfred Angelo—the wedding dress brand is affiliated with Disney—but I spotted sparkly blue dresses on several other runways. See the official Frozen wedding dress here.>>
TREND: SKIRTS THAT SHOW A HINT OF LEG

TRENDSETTER: OLIVIA PALERMO
From left: Elizabeth Stuart, Sarah Seven, Katie Fong (the bottom layer here is a shorter skirt underneath, but same idea).
WHY I’M SURPRISED: Obviously Olivia Palermo’s no stranger to trendsetting, but I didn’t think her wedding look—shorts and a semi-sheer over-skirt by Carolina Herrera—would translate for a non-socialite bride. Boy, was I wrong. Shorts-and-skirts combos were everywhere. And I love ’em.
TREND: PROHIBITION-ERA-INSPIRED SPANGLES AND SPARKLES
TRENDSETTER:The Great Gastby’s DAISY BUCHANAN
From left: Johanna Johnson, Reem Acra, Isabelle Armstrong.
WHY I’M SURPRISED: Even before Baz Luhrmann’s hyper-visual reimagined take on The Great Gatsby hit theaters, the blockbuster inspired Prohibition-era fashion throwbacks: sparkles, fringe, feathers, and gold. I felt like the flapper moment had sort of passed, but most of these dresses won’t be available till fall 2015—meaning brides can tap their inner Daisy Buchanan for at least another year.
Which of these trends would you copy for your wedding day? Are any of these dresses jumping out at you?
