Sugarland's Kristian Bush Shares His Suggestions for Unique First Dance Songs

$

When you catch any new Say Yes to the Dress episodes this season, you might notice a little something different: The show's intro song, redone by Sugarland's Kristian Bush. "Forever Now" makes for a romantic switch-up we're totally into, coming about organically when Bush made an appearance in a future episode of the ultimate dress-hunt show, helping a pal decide on the perfect gown.

country-songs-first-dance-recommendations

"When I taped my appearance on the show, we were in between dresses, and I asked about the music for the show. The producer asked if I would be interested in writing something," he told us, revealing that he wrote the song in less than thirty minutes. "It surprised me how simply the song showed up. I think in retrospect, sitting in Kleinfeld's, just being around that many dreams coming true at one time—it really moved my heart around." The song was initially commissioned for use with montages shown toward the end of each episode, but it won producers over so much that it became the show's new theme song.

After you've said yes to the dress and are prepping for your reception, the task of selecting a first dance song looms on the horizon. "It should be personal and just belong to the bride and groom," Bush said, stellar advice at the ready. "That song really just belongs to those two people and can be as crazy or as personal as they decide. Whatever connects their hearts together." And while the crooner certainly wouldn't mind if the tune that speaks to you is "Forever Now," he's ready with a few other suggestions that will feel just as fresh.

"To Make You Feel My Love" by Adele or Bob Dylan
"Two of my friends had this as their first dance, and it was the most beautiful thing to watch the two of them singing the lyrics to each other."

"Here Comes the Sun," by the Beatles
"This is kind of an unorthodox choice, but once you listen to it in the frame of being a first dance, it becomes one of the most beautiful interpretations of the song I can think of."

"If I Fall Behind," by Bruce Springsteen
"This song says it all, about how caring and loving two people can be with each other when joining their lives forever. It would be a powerful first dance."

"Forever," by Ben Harper
"Everything about this song makes me want to fall in love, every time I hear it."

"Army of One," by Coldplay
"This would be a different kind of choice, but I love what it says. I love the emotion of the recording and that it's an anthem that has rhythm."

"A Woman Like You," by Lee Brice
"This would be an amazing first dance for a couple that loves country music and also loves an inside joke. It is the sweetest song. I know one of the guys who wrote it, and I get more and more charmed by it every time I hear it played."

Newly Engaged Jillian Michaels Shows Off Her Jaw-Dropping Engagement Ring

With little fanfare, Jillian Michaels and longtime love Heidi Rhoades quietly got engaged earlier this year. But there’s nothing quiet about Jillian’s bold new engagement ring, a thick band of what appear to be emerald-cut diamonds.

01-jillian-michaels-engaged-0308-startraks

Jillian and Heidi—mamas to children Pheonix and Lukensia—recently swung through Malibu on an ice cream and coffee date, and each of the ladies was showing off her new engagement ring. Heidi’s, the more traditional of the two, features a round- or cushion-cut center stone with more diamonds on the band, while Jillian’s is back-to-back bling. Here’s a better look at both.

How Family Traditions Can Guide Your Wedding Planning

$

With all options you’re presented with as a bride-to-be, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. That’s why looking back to the weddings of your parents, grandparents, and future in-laws can be a great way to gain some direction—and add a layer of meaning to your ceremony and reception you wouldn’t have otherwise. Browse though your family’s wedding albums, and ask them details about their day. Chances are you’ll find elements that are relevant to you, and ways to make those traditions feel fresh for today.

family-wedding-traditions-0308-stocksy

Take Inspiration From Past Family Weddings
There are so many ways to borrow inspiration from past family events: Get married in the groom’s family church, carry lily-of-the-valley down the aisle as your grandmother did, choose the same first dance song as your parents, or ask your sister to read the same passage during your ceremony that you read at hers.

Don’t Forget “Something Old”
Of course we all know about the tokens a bride traditionally walks down the aisle with for good luck. But did you know they come from an Old English rhyme? (The full wording: ”Something olde/Something new/Something borrowed/Something blue/A sixpence in your shoe.") The “olde” symbolizes continuity with a bride's family. Most commonly, she wears jewelry or a veil that’s been passed down as her nod to her history. (You can also repurpose baubles: a brooch worn in the hair, pearls sewn onto the bodice of the gown, fabric from the veil incorporated into the dress, or used to wrap the bouquet.) If you have a special trinket that doesn’t fit into your aesthetic, have it sewn into your hem so it’s hidden, but with you as you walk towards your groom.

Call On Favorite Recipes
There are a few opportunities to bring family recipes into the fold of your wedding. First, you can seek out a caterer who specializes in the type of cuisine that represents your, or the groom’s, background, and choose dishes that are nostalgic. If you have a specific family recipe you want to replicate, talk to your caterer or wedding cake baker. The wedding favor is also a great chance to share a family favorite: send your guests home with jars of grandma’s famous jam or cookies for a meaningful (and delicious) treat.

Borrow Family Heirlooms
Once you start asking, you might be surprised what treasures your mom, grandmother, and mother-in-law might unearth. They may have saved the cake topper from their own reception, or offer to lend you silver trays or lace tablecloths they received as wedding gifts for your cake table. Another option: Display the wedding portraits of the parents and grandparents on both your and your groom’s sides of the family with your guest book to lend a sense of family history to your day.

Camila and Anthony's Coffee Cup Marriage Proposal

Camila-and-Anthony-1

How we met

A long night of work in the architecture studio turned into the beginning of forever for me. I was studying architecture at the University of Florida, when this sweet man came into my studio one night—a planned introduction from a mutual friend. All it took was one visit. After that Anthony would visit my studio with some coffee in hand to give me much needed caffeine boosts. Little did I know, Anthony was going to be the last guy I would ever share coffee with. From the start, this man stole my heart. As we both say, we go together “like cafe con leche.”

Camila-and-Anthony-10

How he asked

We share a passionate love for the city of Miami, as we spent many, many coffee dates there in our home town. Fast forward three years and Anthony asks me for a sweet, little picnic date in South Pointe Park, which happens to be my favorite park in Miami to relax and get a nice view of the city. December 22 is a day I’ll remember forever. Everything I loved came together on that Sunday. He couldn’t have asked me to spend forever with him in a more perfect way. Anthony had everything planned out (we both like to plan things), he picked me up and had our favorite sandwiches in the back seat. I look in the cup holder and there was a thermo with COFFEE! I was so excited we’d be able to end lunch on that sweet note. We set up in the park and enjoyed the weather. Anthony was so quiet. I honestly wasn’t sure what was wrong - everything was so beautiful but he was way too quiet! I didn’t ask, just let it be because we were just having such a relaxing time. He barely ate his food but when it came to have coffee he was ready. Conveniently, he forgot the cups in the car and had to walk to get them. I suggested we improvise, but nope! He said he preferred we got the cups to be comfortable. When he returned, he poured us each a small cup.

Camila-and-Anthony-3

Camila-and-Anthony-2

Anthony chugged that coffee—he even poured himself another. But I—I just sipped away until I noticed he was so eager for me to finish. Everything clicked!!

Camila-and-Anthony-9

I chugged the coffee and looked down into my espresso cup—the words ‘will you marry me’ were at the bottom in black so clear but yet so blurry! The moment I was dying for was here! This was it!

Camila-and-Anthony-6

Camila-and-Anthony-4

Camila-and-Anthony-5

I jumped up, he got down on one knee (said a bunch of stuff) but I just was crying, smiling, holding my mouth closed, as the palm trees spun around above me. We were in total bliss! The best espresso I’ve ever had for sure! Since our relationship began by a cup of coffee, it only seemed right that he ask me to marry him with … a cup of coffee.

Diane Kruger on Moving In With Josh Jackson—and Whether They Have Plans to Marry

Bye bye, breakup rumors. Diane Kruger put to rest any speculation that she and longtime love Josh Jackson had split by sharing some big news of a different nature: They just moved in together.

diane-kruger-josh-jackson-0310-getty

The two settled in together in New York City as Josh was set to make his off-Broadway debut: “[Moving here] was a major commitment. That’s a big step into adulthood for me, to allow that time for someone else out of my time.”

So will they take the next big step—a wedding? “Welcome to my dilemma!” Diane said when pressed.

Of course the actress once famously told Glamour that she'd never marry again, but as of October of 2014, Josh updated their relationship status to, “We may get married.” And we have good reasons—plural—to suspect the two may have already said “I do.”

With or without marriage, Diane told the mag she does see babies in her future: “I feel very European and I think that I’m going to grow old in Paris. I have this fantasy of raising my kids there one day. I just can imagine living my life sipping cocktails at the Chateau Marmont, you know?”

The day that Chabby fans have been waiting for is finally almost here! Beginning tomorrow, Days of our Lives will kick off the wedding festivities for super couple Abigail Deveraux and Chad DiMera. The couple (played by Days fan favorites Billy Flynn and Kate Mansi) will tie the knot, but not without a few hiccups along the way. (Only natural in Salem, right?) After all, determining the wedding location (the DiMera mansion) was enough to leave any bride to run screaming for the hills. Still, nothing can deter this couple, not after being handcuffed inside a remote burning cabin, or being brainwashed. However, Chabby has one last obstacle to overcome before they tie the knot: Abby's mentally unstable and dangerous ex, Ben (played by Robert Scott Wilson) will return for these episodes, but you'll have to wait and see what his ulterior motive is.

In the meantime, we have an exclusive photo of Abby's stunning wedding dress. It's the moment you've all been waiting for! Prepare to gasp.

The wedding of Chad and Abby kicks off on March 11 and continues on March 15. Don't miss it!

Oprah (Oops!) Hasn't Sent Viola Davis a Wedding Gift Yet

An Oprah“oops!” moment: How to Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis revealed last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that Oprah attended her wedding—with plus-one Stedman Graham—but she didn’t...

viola-davis-wedding-0311-getty

Send a wedding gift! Oops!

Viola wasn’t keen on outing her friend’s faux pas, but she ’fessed up when pressed: “Did Oprah get you anything?” Jimmy asked. “Were gifts accepted at this thing?”

“Oprah did not get me a gift,” she said. “But you know what? I didn’t ask her to give me a gift.” She also pointed out that wedding guests have a year to send a gift, which is true. (Although we recommend sending a wedding gift right after the wedding, since after week we’d be in danger of forgetting!)

Viola said “I do” to Julius Tennon for a third time over Valentine’s weekend this year. ”The first time we got married with 15 people in our condo. It wasn’t big enough,” she said. “So three months later we went to Rhode Island with about 100 people, and everybody said, ‘You know what? The best photos are candid ones.’ We put disposable cameras on every table, sepia toned black and white. Honey, those kids stomped the hell out of those cameras. They took pictures of the floor, of teeth—there were a lot of toothless people at the second wedding. That’s another story! So, I wanted to have another ceremony that was pretty where I got to wear the fabulous dress with the fabulous food.”

5 Expert-Approved Signs You're With Someone You Should Marry

$
0
0

Gone are the days where a simple text could cause you to doodle your new married name in a notebook — and think that is your forever person. As adults, we need real signs we're with someone we should marry. So here, our experts divulge five ways to judge you're dating a guy or gal who means married business.

ready-for-marriage-couple

1. You can come back from a fight.
It's not a good sign if you bicker nonstop. But, when you engage in an argument, you can each recover — and are more open to the other's needs — you're in good shape to say "I do," according to our experts. "Couples often struggle when their partner goes into a more primitive fight-and-flight response," describes David Klow, LMFT at Skylight Counseling Center in Skokie, Illinois. "If your partner knows how to stay open and present, rather than shut down, then you have good chance of making it through tough times. At the very least, if he or she knows how to call a time out and return later to the conversation, then that is a very good sign."

2. You make one another laugh.
As they say, laughter is the best medicine. And as it turns out, tickling your partner's funny bone can be the healing a healthy relationship needs— and a sure sign you're ready to tie the knot. "It's not just about having fun," describes Roudabeh Rahbar, PsyD., licensed clinical psychologist in Southern California. "Laughter in a relationship is a sign that both people can be vulnerable with one another. If your partner can make fun of himself, that is a huge plus because it's indicative of a person who can truly be vulnerable and has confidence — think: George Clooney."

See More:8 Scientific Ways to Make Your Relationship Stronger

3. Your relationship has been (successfully) tested.
Any relationship can appear on the road to marriage when it's fresh, shiny, and new. In these conditions, says Los Angeles-based relationship expert Rhonda Richards-Smith, "it may appear as though your relationship is ideal. But it is often through personal challenges, heartache, and disappointment that we really see what our romantic relationships are made of." So if you've stayed together through a tough time and still have a positive outlook, you've been given a sign you're with someone you could marry. "Give yourself some time to allow the relationship to withstand some of life's tests before taking the next step," Richards-Smith recommends.

4. You feel totally comfortable around one another.
When our experts say you should feel comfortable with anyone you might see as future spouse, they don't mean you can wear your sweatpants in front of him or her.
"When someone is fully comfortable with his or her romantic partner, he or she feels safe, honored, and respected," explains Janelle Alex, Ph.D., transpersonal counselor. And with that kind of comfortable transparency, she says, "a person can follow his or her dreams knowing his or her lover will be there. Even more exciting is the fact that his or her romantic partner in life will be willing to explore their intimate play in the bedroom together without judgment, but while sharing laughter and excitement."

5. Your life goals are aligned.
It's a sure sign you shouldn't marry someone if he or she wants different things from life than you do. But if your goals are aligned, our experts say, you may be with someone to whom you could tie the knot. "Two people can date without having the same life vision, but marriage is a completely different story," says Colin Christopher, clinical hypnotherapist and author of Manipulate the Date. "Does your partner want kids? How many? How does he or she view money? Are you ready to settle down and he or she is still into the party scene? Having life goals that align with one another makes it more likely that your marriage will succeed."

Nothing says “happy birthday” quite like a childhood flashback photo, and Taylor Swift found an epically spectacular one to celebrate brother Austin’s 24th.

Austin has joined his big sister on numerous red carpets—most recently at least year’s Billboard Music Awards. (That photo above is from the 2013 CMT Music Awards.) In February, Austin was quick to toss his Yeezys in the trash after Kanye released “Famous,” with the (total garbage) line, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. I made that b-tch famous.”

Obviously it’s a round diamond in a round halo, but the halo seems extra-special. It looks like there’s a row of diamonds around the center stone, and maybe another row of diamonds around the circumference of the halo—so it’s ALL sparkle and shine. Plus, there’s obviously more diamonds in the band. Bling-tastic.

"J.Lo Versace what's upppp?" —Katie

After hanging with the Pump Rules girls, we're convinced their friendships are just as real as their ability to pop out hilarious one-liners without any need for a script. Other highlights: Kristin falling in love with the bridal headpiece she tried on for fun to the extent that she had to purchase one ($$$) even though she's not engaged, and Stassi worrying she'd pull a Jax-and-the-sunglasses and "accidentally" walk out of the store wearing hers. And you should have seen everyone freak out when the owner of Kleinfeld presented them with official show T-shirts. Reality TV stars: They lose their cool over reality TV just like us. Stay tuned, before next week's Vanderpump Rules reunion show we'll debut a video we made with the girls. And we'll all just have to wait until fall to see for sure which dress Katie says yes to. Which would you vote for?

5 Wedding-Day Lipsticks That Won't Smudge All Over Your Groom

Between kissing your fiance (correction: husband) all night and drinking alllll the champagne, your dream day also happens to be a lipstick nightmare. One newly engaged, lipstick-loving writer put the latest shades through a rigorous fiance-kissing, champagne-sipping test to bring you the ones that truly last. Mwah.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick

In the name of avoiding a lipstick smudge, my fiance spent years opting for an awkward cheek-to-cheek air kiss over a full-on lip-lock at public events (fair enough, FI). So he almost didn’t believe me when I said that this one left no trace. But it’s true, which is especially impressive—and crucial—considering I went for one of the darkest shades: Chianti. ($24, ulta.com)

Sephora Creme Lip Stain

As long as you dab any excess pigment with a tissue after applying (which goes for every lipstick on this list, BTW), this Sephora stain truly doesn’t budge. (Just ask my spotless champagne flute.) The cult favorite now comes in 14 new shades, including Watermelon Slice, Strawberry Kissed, and Coral Crush, all solid options for spring brides. ($14, sephora.com)

Fiona Stiles Color Impact Matte Lip Crayon

When it comes to lip color with true staying power, it doesn’t get much better than a stain. But stains can often be very drying since they typically contain less oil than traditional lipsticks. (Oils and emollients are likely the reason your lipstick loses the battle with your smoothie straw every morning.) Solution: This lip crayon from Fiona Stiles, which launches this month and contains ingredients that moisturize without that super slippery sensation. I didn’t reapply once throughout the day, and the color was still vibrant after dinner. ($16, ulta.com)

Flower Color Proof Long-Wear Lip Creme

The latest lip color from Drew Barrymore’s makeup line passed both the fiance-kiss test and the lots-of-wine-with-dinner test. Let’s just say, it’s usually, very, very easy to find my wineglass in a crowd. With this lipstick, though, my glass had only the tiniest smudge on it (the same can be said for my fiance’s cheek). But even though I was rocking the boldest shade in the line (Red My Lips), the remains looked more like those from a light gloss. ($8, Walmart)

Revlon Colorstay Overtime
makeup-bridal-makeup-lipstick-revlon-colorstay-0314-courtesy
Remember what I mentioned about dryness? Well, Revlon Colorstay Overtime has a topcoat of soy extract and chamomile, which moisturize and provide a glossy look. I completely forgot that I was wearing lipstick halfway through brunch and was pleasantly surprised to find that my color stood up to a number of mimosas that I will not mention. Try one of three new shades: Unending Red, For Keeps Pink, and All Night Fuchsia (shown here). ($10, drugstores nationwide)

Celebrity event planner Mindy Weiss knows a thing or two about Bachelor and Bachelorette weddings: She’s had a hand in the big days of some of the franchise’s most happily-ever-ever couples, including Trista and Ryan, JP and Ashley, and, most recently, Sean and Catherine.

Here’s what Mindy has in mind for Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell, who accepted Ben’s final rose on last night’s Bachelor finale.

THE WEDDING
Their wedding would be beachy, simple, and at a tropical, exotic destination! Lauren B. has done a ton of traveling as a flight attendant so a destination wedding is a natural fit. They’ll pick light, soft colors like blues and blushes {Hello, Pantone Colors of the Year! } and really subtle decor and flowers.

THE BRIDESMAIDS

Her bridesmaids will wear light blue dresses. I think it will be an intimate gathering on the smaller side. Her sister will be her maid of honor and it will only be close friends and family.

THE WEDDING DRESS

Daria Wedding Dress by Mira Zwillinger.

Lauren is very trendy and loves a two piece outfit with a cropped top, so think she might take a risk and go with the more modern styled two piece dress. That said, I still think it will be simple and beachy (no lace and minimal beading).

A wedding dress fit for a country queen: After four seasons, Nashville’s Rayna James and Deacon Claybourne finally said “I do”—and Rayna’s one-of-a-kind wedding dress was worth the wait.

“I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to design a dress for Connie [Britton], because I love that girl,” Nashville’s costume designer Susie DeSanto told People. “Like her character, the dress is simple, honest, not too fussy, elegant and sophisticated.”

The “beautiful bisque” dress features a bodice made from a single piece of lace over a figure-skimming sheath-shaped skirt of crepe, silk-backed satin topped with a silk netting overlay with hand-sewn lace flower appliques.

“Connie was involved in the process— we have a great relationship so it was fun for us. I showed her the sketches, and we had several fittings,” Susan told People. “This wedding dress has a truth to it. It’s what you wear when you marry your true love.”

Shia LaBeouf's Girlfriend Spotted With a Ring on THAT Finger, and the Engagement Rumors Fly

shia-lebeouf-mia-goth-engagement

Shia LaBeouf finally put a ring on longtime girlfriend Mia Goth's finger, and sources confirm with Us Weekly that they are engaged! The first source overheard the couple earlier this month while they were grocery shopping at Gelson's tell the cashier they were set to get married. Not to mention, the onlooker also spotted a massive diamond on her engagement finger. Last month, Shia also called Mia his fiancee during a live-streamed performance art project #Elevate.

The duo met back in 2012 on the set of Nymphomaniac: Vol. II and first sparked some engagement rumors last month when Mia appeared at the Miu Miu show in Paris with a certain sparkly ring. While neither of them commented on their relationship at the time, it's looking like our sneaking suspicion this time is correct. Congrats to the happy couple!
