Fall in Love: 7 Mega-Romantic Photos of Autumn Weddings

One reason fall is quickly outpacing spring as the most popular wedding season: Dreamy, golden-tinged pictures are basically a guarantee. And when Mother Nature takes care of the decorating for you, you’re free to focus your energy on more important stuff. Like cake. (Mmmmm. Cake.)

All the photos above are via wedding photographers, so you can find them by clicking through their Insta profiles. The pic below is by Nathan Fiske Photography. (I found it when I searched for #fallwedding.)

Would you get married in the fall? Which of these photos is your favorite?

I really like the “falling leaves” pictures, but I feel like they could be come the next “jumping wedding party” pictures, where everyone does ’em, even when the photos look weird, if that makes sense.

The 10 Celebrity Couples Who Will Be Engaged Next

Engagement season is right around the corner, so before the proposals start flying, I need to get my celebrity engagement predictions on the record. Here are the 10 celebrity couples who will get engaged next, according to my psycho psychic powers.

IAN SOMERHALDER & NIKKI REED

It hasn’t been long, but I suspect Ian and Nikki are on the fast track to engagement.

CHARLIZE THERON & SEAN PENN
charlize-theron-sean-penn-engaged-engagement-engagement-rings-celebrity-weddings-0602

Sean and Charlize are a holdover from my mid-year picks. I’m kind of shocked they’re not already engaged.

OLIVIA MUNN & AARON RODGERS
olivia-munn-aaron-rodgers-engaged-engagement-engagement-rings-celebrity-weddings-1027

Aaron recently gave girlfriend Olivia Munn a ring. I suspect the ring is on the way.

PIPPA MIDDLETON & NICO JACKSON
pippa-middleton-nico-jackson-engaged-engagement-ring-engagement-rings-celebrity-weddings-1218

I feel the same about these two that I did about Kimye last year: I just know they’re going to get engaged, so I kind of wish they’d hurry it up just so I can stop being on high alert. (But you know, no rush. Wait till you’re ready, kids!)

LEA MICHELE & MATTHEW PAETZ

A photo posted by Lea Michele (@msleamichele) on

Most of my picks this time around are under-the-radar couples, like Lea and Matthew, who’ve been quietly dating since June. They’re so hush-hush that this picture of his shadow is the closest she’s come to mentioning him on Instagram.

LADY GAGA & TAYLOR KINNEY

Taylor’s already wearing a ring, and there may (or may not) have been a commitment ceremony. I think these two are forever-ever.

CAMERON DIAZ & BENJI MADDEN
08-benji-madden-cameron-diaz

Cameron recently said she’s “not looking to marry,” but that doesn’t mean she won’t. Plus, I like her and Nicole Richie as sisters-in-law.

DEMI LOVATO & WILMER VALDERRAMA

A photo posted by Demi Lovato (@ddlovato) on

Another couple who keeps things hush-hush. I don’t think they’ll marry right away (Demi’s only 22), but I can see Wilmer putting a ring on it soon.

ROSE BYRNE & BOBBY CANNAVALE
rose-byrne-bobby-cannavale-engaged-engagement-engagement-rings-celebrity-weddings-0602

Another mid-year holdover, this engagement is SO happening. And soon. (Mark my words.)

JOSH JACKSON & DIANE KRUGER

This is probably the fourth time Diane and Josh have appeared on my soon-to-be-engaged list. Sure, for years, she said, “Hell, no!” But just last week Josh updated their relationship status to—and I quote—“We may get married.”

Which of these celebrity couples will get engaged? Am I SO off-base with any? And did I miss anyone?

6 Celebrity Ponytails That Are Just Chic Enough for Your Wedding Day

Sure, a ponytail works for a trip to the gym or on those mornings you {snooze button } just don’t have time to shower. But a ponytail can also be wedding-worthy if you take a few chic-ifying steps. And, you know, wash your hair. Here are six celebs who walked the red carpet in ponytails that are also suitable for walking down the aisle.

Reem Acra’s Bold Take on Crop-Top Wedding Dresses: Not for Shy Brides

$

Crop-top wedding dresses have only been a thing for a few seasons now: I first spotted them on the runways last April and came to terms with their growing popularity a month later. When a chic real bride nailed a crop-top wedding dress in August (and Ashlee Simpson followed suit a few weeks later), I figured the trend would stick around for a while. But it’s taken a dramatic turn, um, up. While the first bride-specific crop tops showed just a hint of skin—barely two inches around the mid-ribs—Reem Acra’s take on the trend is WAY more brazen.

Wedding Dress 2
2-new-reem-acra-wedding-dresses-wedding-gowns-crop-top-wedding-dresses-1028

The twisty thing around her neck is a flower garland; it’s not part of the dress.

Wedding Dress 3
3-new-reem-acra-wedding-dresses-wedding-gowns-crop-top-wedding-dresses-1028

BAM. ABS.

And I’m still pretty OK with it all. I mean, look, probably only .01 percent of the population would have the six-pack AND the confidence to walk down the aisle in these dresses—especially the first two. But if ab-flashing is your game, it’s your day. And I like when wedding dress trends take their cue from the ready-to-wear runways. Your wedding day doesn’t exist in a time bubble, so why not wear something of-the-moment? Sure, this dress probably isn’t for a bride whose ceremony’s in a house of worship or one who’ll be surrounded by all of her extended family on her wedding day. (Great Aunt Rita would faint, no?) But if you’re getting married on an island a deux or surrounded by just a few close friends, I say: Go there.

Would you wear one of Reem Acra’s new crop-top wedding dresses? Or is that pushing the line a little too far for you?

Remember When Madonna Was Married to Sean Penn? Here’s Her Wedding Dress

When Madonna and Sean Penn married in the mid-’80s—and divorced four years later—their wedding wasn’t really on my radar. (I was, like, a toddler—and not celebrity-wedding-obsessed. Yet.) But of course when I heard today that Madonna’s wedding dress is up for auction, I couldn’t click the link fast enough. And obviously I was instantly obsessed.

madonna-wedding-dress-sean-penn-celebrity-weddings-1028

I mean, the veil—which is attached to a black bowler hat—isn’t exactly my scene, but otherwise I love the dress, which was designed by Madonna’s costume designer. Here’s the Julien’s Live listing. (It’s expected to sell for $40,000 to $60,000, if you’re in the market.) And here’s a picture from Madonna and Sean Penn's wedding day, if you’re curious. Obviously, because she’s Madonna, she’s totally pulling off the bowler veil. #unapologeticbride

Sports-Themed Wedding Rings for Men Are Happening. And I’m Surprisingly OK With Them

$

Assuming he’s a sports fan, your groom gets 162 baseball games, 17 weeks of football, and NBA and NHL seasons that each seem to span 14 consecutive months. So does he really need a sporty wedding ring too? Well, no. But these sports-themed wedding rings from Mark Silverstein Imagines are so unobtrusive, I barely noticed that they’re sports-themed. (I still don't know what sport the bottom left ring represents.)

1-sports-themed-wedding-rings-for-men-1029

I mean, if we’re looking at them as a collection, they seem a little nerdy, but on a guy’s hand, the patterns and textures are so discreet, I feel like no one would bat an eye. (The exception being the soccer ball. The dark-color hexagons make it a little too “sports!” for my taste.)

Click here to check out the entire collection.

Would you be OK with your guy wearing a sports-themed wedding ring? Or would that just further prove your point, that he’s married to football?

Band or DJ: Here’s Who You Should Book for Your Wedding

$
0
0

One thing that surprised me when I was wedding planning: People have passionate, passionate feelings when it comes to wedding bands versus DJs. (I’m talking political debate levels of conviction here.) But the real answer is, no one’s right. What works for your low-budget, big-city wedding might not work for your best friend’s black-tie, suburban affair. And an awesome band or DJ could probably rock the dance floor at any wedding. Here are four factors to help you decide which is best for your big day:

Find-Husband

2 REASONS TO HIRE A BAND

  • You want THE wedding songs. They’ve played “September” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” so many times they probably sound better than the original artists. (With all due respect, Earth, Wind & Fire.)
  • Your venue is spacious. Where a DJ and his laptop will take up just a few square feet of floor space, a band requires much more real estate. Totally fine—if they’re not going to crowd the dance floor.

2 REASONS TO HIRE A DJ

  • Your taste in music is obscure. Most bands will learn only one or two new songs for a couple, so you can’t ask them to play the set list from your favorite underground albums—but you can hand a CD or an iPod playlist to a DJ.
  • You’d rather spend on the food—or your dress. #nojudgment A DJ will set you back around $1,000—even a modestly sized band might be three times that.

Will you hire a band or DJ for your wedding? Which do you prefer, as a guest?

Planning a wedding can be nerve-racking, which is why brides often enlist the help of professionals. Unfortunately, the process can become just as taxing on the wedding planners, cake designers, caterers, and florists who are trying to help. We asked a few of these industry experts to share the things brides do that make their jobs unnecessarily difficult. Brides, take note!

Getting the guest list late. The days leading up to the wedding should be focused on your critical event details.” Lynn Easton Andrews, wedding and event planner, Easton Events.

When they want a certain flower that is not in season and they beg me to get it for them. Trust me, if I had anything to do with Mother Nature I would grow it for them.” Eddie Zaratsian, creative director, Tic-Tock

Having too many people in their bridal party. It gets too hectic and overwhelming. Keep it simple!” Emily Reifel, senior social sales manager, CPS Events at The Plaza

Continuing to research options even after you've made a decision on a vendor or a look, idea, etc. Instead, narrow down ideas, make decisions, and try to stick to them. [It only] makes you doubt yourself and slows down the process. There are so many choices and we know it's hard, but a great planner-designer can really help narrow down the choices and tailor your options so it's not so overwhelming.” Cara Kleinhaut, owner, Cara Events

"Inviting too many to the cake tasting and consultation. When you have lots of opinions, it can take away from the real focus of the consultation, which is you! I prefer to meet with just the couple and one or two trusted people. Small groups are very productive." Maggie Austin, artistic director, Maggie Austin Cake

"Communication is key when planning events, and it can be really challenging if all parties involved are not on the same page." Logan Rich Chabina, chief marketing officer, EMM Group Events

Keeping both the mother and the bride happy. We want the bride to have everything the way she wants… without getting her mother upset. It's a balance that we strive to protect. I always think my psychology background comes in handy at these important and difficult moments!” Tara Guérard, event designer, Soirée

"Bringing all of the bridesmaids to the consultation and they all do the talking, not the bride." Jane Lockhart, owner, Sweet Lady Jane

Is there anything more romantic than a braid worn with a beautiful wedding or bridesmaid gown? I continue to feel that the answer is no. And just when we think we're (maybe, almost) getting tired of the braid look, new versions come along to charm us silly. Here are my five favorite recent braid ideas. Which would you love to wear to a wedding?

1. The epic new twist on crown braids that Margot Robbie wore a couple of days ago.

2. Molly Sims' cool half-up crown braids (by braid master Sarah Potempa—follow her on Instagram for lots more inspo!).

3. Victoria's Secret model Lindsay Ellingson's soft half-back French braid.

4. This easy bohemian updo, which requires little more than joining two pigtails (here's the full how-to courtesy of Butterfly Studio Salon in NYC).

9 Things Every Wedding Guest Should Know

$

0

brides-logo

There are a lot of etiquette rules in play when it comes to weddings, and just because you're not in the wedding doesn't mean you're exempt from following them. As a guest, what might feel like "not a big deal" to you could easily throw off a couple's big day. Sure, mishaps may still happen, but follow these nine basic etiquette tips to make sure that you're not the source of any of them.

69-paige-jones-photography-jen-goldie-real-wedding-0618

1. Respect the RSVP guidelines
Planning a wedding is already a feat—give the couple a break by not making them chase down your RSVP. Send in your acceptance or regrets by the date requested and do not ask the couple if you can bring other guests/friends/plus-ones/children if they were not explicitly invited.

2. Don't change your mind at the last minute
Barring any serious emergencies, you should not change your RSVP at the last minute. The couple's already paid for your attendance and it's just really awkward to have three courses served to an empty seat.

3. Be on time
The couple's wedding day is one structured timeline and what seems like a minor delay of 15 or 20 minutes could seriously cut into their photography session. Show up to the venue before the invitation time, but if you are cutting it close, keep a low profile in the back. Never run or try to sneak down the aisle to find a seat right before or after the bride's processional.

4. Follow the couple's social-media guidelines
Whether the couple wants no trace of their wedding on the Internet or wants you to Instagram all the moments, respect their wishes. Just under no circumstance should you post a less-than-flattering photo of the bride even if you happen to look really cute.

5. Don't wear white or anything else that draws attention to yourself
Also don't wear anything that is primarily white or a dress in a hue that is really close to white. Other fashion styles on the "no" list: ball gowns bigger than the bridal gown, plunging necklines, and thigh-high slits.

6. Stay out of the professional photographer's way
This means phones down during the ceremony and leave your tablets at home. Also, if a photographer asks you to step out of a shot, just do it.

7. Don't try to change tables
Creating the seating chart wasn't easy for anyone, and don't take it upon yourself to make last-minute changes—even if you suddenly spotted your childhood best friend you did not know was also coming to the wedding.

8. Smile, have fun, and avoid drama
A wedding is a festive occasion and you're there to celebrate. No sulking in the corner, no rolling your eyes even if Uncle Josh's speech was the worst thing you've ever heard, no badmouthing other guests (or anything really), and never incite drama.

9. Send a gift
Plain and simple, if you were invited to the wedding, you should send a gift. Give whatever is within your means, but never not give anything at all. And always send (key word: send. Bringing box gifts to the wedding is cumbersome for all parties involved) your gift as early as possible—the longer you wait after the wedding, the more likely you are to forget.

Real Wedding Album: Lyndsay & Marcus

$

I saved this extra-special real wedding album for a weekend, because you’re going to need some time to soak it all in. So pour another cup of coffee, round up your stash of leftover Halloween candy, and scroll up, down, and back again to your heart’s content.

Lyndsay—who you might recognize as a former Glamour.com girl!—and Marcus met during their senior year at Penn State. They remained in contact after graduation, became best friends, and when Marcus landed a job in NYC two years later, their friendship blossomed into a relationship. They decided to get married in a private ceremony in Michigan outside of Detroit (where Marcus is from) and celebrate their union with 150 of their closest friends and family members in NYC, where Lyndsay is from, one week later.

Here are the highlights, from Lyndsay:

The Ceremony
The first thing Marcus and I decided to do as a married couple? We got baptized! Just moments after we said our “I do,” we changed our outfits and were dipped into the lake we were married by. The baptism was a symbol of becoming renewed and entering into our marriage with pure hearts and souls. It was a cloudy day, but as soon as I surfaced from the water, the sun shined brighter than we’d seen in days. I should note that our wedding was a sunrise ceremony, another symbol of a new beginning as a married couple. Our violinist played “Take Me to the Water” as we approached the lake to get baptized.

The Beauty Routine
Since I knew that I was going to get wet, I decided to do my own hair and makeup. I slicked my big curly hair into a sleek bun and kept my makeup neutral. Just a nude lip and lots of waterproof mascara.

The Dress
I went to Barcelona on a business trip and searched high and low for a simple ceremony gown. Just before giving up, I stumbled upon the most beautiful dress shop tucked into a building directly across the street from my hotel. The Chantilly lace design fit like a glove, and after three short days of alterations (and converting the price from euros to dollars)—all in my very best Spanish, might I add—I was able to fit my dress into my carry-on and brought it on home!

The Seating Arrangements
Our 25 guests were escorted into canoes by Marcus’ dad.

The Dress Code
We asked our guests to wear neutral colors (including white!) and requested that the women wear hats. The inspiration for this was a cross between a scene from My Fair Lady and traditional Southern Christian baptisms.

The Food
Though it was an early ceremony, the breakfast was prepared by our family, who had no hesitations when it came to cooking and setting the table. While one was on grits, another was slicing potatoes. Even I whipped the batter together for our pancake and waffle station!

The After-Party
After a long nap, Marcus and I (and our amazing photographer turned friend Diane), stumbled upon a local carnival and kept the party going throughout the night. We played ring toss, rode the carousel, jumped on the Ferris wheel, and waved to all of the fairgoers who wished us well. Nothing beats Midwestern charm.

The Reception
Green, my new last name, became a central theme for our reception. I’d always envisioned a garden wedding with lush greenery all around, so when I found Gallow Green, I fell in love with everything about it, from the dripping vines all over the rooftop garden, to the rustic yet elegant feel of the venue, and the city skyline added an urban contrast. It was all just perfect for our black tie gala in the garden. We took our photos in the Chelsea neighborhood at the nearby Highline.

The Attire
We also had a ’50s theme for the reception, as I’m obsessed with the elegance of the time period. My custom Stephen Yearick mermaid gown decked out in beading and long satin gloves were inspired by Old Hollywood glamour. As were my bridesmaids’ Nha Khanh mermaid gowns and maids of honor ball gowns. Marcus’ shawl collar tux, diamond tip bowtie, and spectator shoes were reminiscent of the dapper gentleman of the era as well.

Sweet Touches
Gallow Green offered a signature cocktail inspired by the 50s for our guests to receive as they arrived, called the Southside (gin + cucumber + lime + mint). It was all the rave that night! My cousin, Shanasia Davidson recently opened her baking business Little London’s Cakes and offered to serve as our baker for the event. She set up our “Love Takes The Cake” station, where we offered cake pops, cake holes, cupcakes, and individual cakes for our guests to take home as a nod of appreciation for celebrating our union.

Marcus’ groomsmen included his football teammates from his days at Penn State and brother who is also a former college football player, hence the football in the background of some of the photos—and an explanation for the fact that they’re just about all over 6 feet tall!

Bethenny Frankel Peed in a Bucket at Her Wedding—But You Don't Have To

Bethenny Frankel’s wedding (and, um, marriage) is ancient history, but with her imminent return to the Real Housewives of New York, we get to re-hash all sorts of fun details from her past. Like that time she hiked up her wedding dress to pee in a champagne bucket at her wedding, a fun tidbit that was recapped in a recent Us Weeklystory.

bethenny-frankel

Bethenny wore Kenneth Pool’s curve-hugging fit-to-flare Romantic wedding dressand she was pregnant with daughter Bryn on her wedding day—so doing her business would definitively have been tricky, but I’m happy to report that there are easier ways for a bride to relieve herself. I discussed the process in detail with Fahionista, but in the case of a super-tight wedding gown like Bethenny’s (I wore one, too!) your best bet is to shimmy out of your dress and do your business.

Which means you’ll probably need:

1) An out-of-the-way bathroom. If there’s a bridal suite, it’s worth the trek to avoid getting bathroom-floor filth on your wedding dress.
2) A hanger. PLEASE don’t toss your gown on the floor, no matter how badly you gotta go.
3) An understanding bridesmaid. The whole operation is going to go more smoothly if someone’s there to lend you a hand. (Of course she can wait outside the room while you do the deed. Let's be civil.) And don’t forget: Be generous with the bridesmaid gift.
4) Quality shapewear. You’re probably going to wear it under your dress, anyway, so make sure to wear something with a “split gusset,” so you can go without peeling off the whole she-bang. (I wore an even more hideous version of this.)

Are you worried about, um, doing your business in a wedding dress? Have you ever been THAT bridesmaid?
