More than one couple tied the knot this weekend: While all eyes (or my eyes, anyway) were watching Florence, Joe Jonas and his girlfriend, Blanda Eggenschwiler, were watching the sweet wedding of her friends Stella Ivory and Carl Gambino. Check out this statement making wedding dress.

How gorgeous is Stella's wedding dress? Would you wear a rose-color red dress on your wedding day?

I adore it! Congrats, kids!

P.S. Remember this a real bride's wedding pictures, so please play nice in the comments.

Kim Kardashian's wedding-day "something old" might have just been her earrings: a pair of Martin Katz Tobey diamond studs, which Kanyereportedly gave her more than a year ago. (She was spotted wearing them at Kanye's 2013 New Year's concert, when he announced her pregnancy!) Here's the exact pair:

6 Maya Angelou Quotes About Love to Incorporate Into Your Wedding

maya-angelou-glamour

Maya Angelou, who died yesterday, had wisdom to share on pretty much every facet of life—success, ambition, and self-respect. So it's not surprising her words on love would work beautifully on your wedding day. Here are six wedding-ready Maya Angelou quotes I adore:

1. "I am grateful to have been loved and to be loved now and to be able to love, because that liberates. Love liberates. It doesn't just hold—that's ego. Love liberates. It doesn't bind. Love says, 'I love you. I love you if you're in China. I love you if you're across town. I love you if you're in Harlem. I love you. I would like to be near you. I'd like to have your arms around me. I'd like to hear your voice in my ear. But that's not possible now, so I love you. Go.'"

That one's perfect for a short wedding reading—and we all know short wedding readings are the best kind. (While we're at it, here are 10 more wedding readings that don't suck, from your favorite books, TV shows, and movies.)

And these are perfect for incorporating into your vows or a wedding speech—or to print on your program, a sweet sign on your bar or guestbook table, or even cocktail napkins.

2. "My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return."

3. "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope."

4. "If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love."

5. "I know for sure that love saves me and that it is here to save us all."

6. "It's one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself, to forgive. Forgive everybody."

Which one of these Maya Angelou quotes is your favorite? Would you incorporate any in your wedding?

P.S. 16 more unforgettable things Maya Angelou wrote and said.

Wedding WTF: Jaden Smith Wore a White Batman Suit (Hood and All) at the Kimye Wedding, Giving Us the Best Wedding Ceremony Photo of All Time

In late-breaking news from the Kimye wedding, the latest issue of InTouch has a photo of just-married Kim Kardashian and Kanye West walking up the aisle—right past Jaden Smith, who wore a full-on white Batman suit at the wedding ceremony and later the reception. What. The. Eff? (Click here to see the photo from Jezebel's Midweek Madness.)

Here's a pic from Joe Francis' Instagram:

There's a small (VERY small) chance you might not notice the cape-bedecked 15-year-old, since the man dressed behind him—Andre Leon Talley—is also wearing a cape. But the hood and the pointy ears are even more distracting than that red getup, I think. And maybe this is the least of his sins, but doesn't Jaden know that only the bride (and her wedding party, in this case) gets to wear white? You'd think Jada would've filled him in.

Thoughts on Jaden Smith's outfit for Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding? How do you think the bride and groom felt?

This Soft, Dreamy Makeup Is Perfect for a Wedding—and We Have All the Details

Here's a fresh idea for your wedding makeup inspiration file (one you probably haven't Pinned before): the subtle-but-glowing look that Chloe Grace Moretz wore at the premiere of her new film Cloud of Sils Maria in Cannes.

chloe-grace-moretz-cannes-makeup

To create a "soft and ethereal" face worthy of Chloe's dreamy feather-embellished Chanel dress, makeup artist Mai Quynh started with serious skin prep. She layered on ReVive Moisturizing Renewal Cream like a mask, letting it sit on Chloe's skin for a few minutes before rubbing it in. Then she applied Laura Mercier makeup, starting with foundation, concealer, and powder. The next steps:

* She applied Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Peach Whisper to the apples of Chloe's cheeks, for a believable flush.

* For the hazy mauve eyes, Mai used three different Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks: Sugar Frost, just at the inner corner; Amethyst on the lids and blended into the creases; and Grey Pearl along the top lash line, fading into the Amethyst color. For the bottom lash line, she mixed Amethyst and Grey Pearl together and smudged it on.

* After applying mascara and filling in Chloe's brows with a blond pencil, Mai applied Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Lip Colour in Coy for a pinky-nude pout.

Do you love this fresh makeup scheme as seen on Chloe Moretz? Will you do a neutral look on your wedding day or something bolder?

The 4 Rules of Being a Kick-Ass Wedding Date

$
0
0

You and your guy have been dating for a few months, and then it happens: a wedding invitation arrives...with a plus-one. You've agreed to go together: fantastic! (But also potentially scary.) If you're a new couple or just nervous about making a good impression, don't worry! All you have to do is follow a few simple rules of being a great wedding date:
22-pretty-bridesmaid-dresses-alfred-angelo-new
1. Dress your best.
It's time to bring your elegant A game. Just remember three rules: Adhere to the dress code, avoid wearing white (but you knew that), and if you're attending a religious ceremony, cover your bare arms at the ceremony. If you have questions, it's perfectly acceptable to ask! Wear something flattering that shows your classy side (think: wife material), not to mention something you can dance in with your date.

2. Alcohol is best in moderation.
As we've all learned at least once, an open bar is both a blessing and a curse. If you plan on drinking, remember to pace yourself. Finish off a glass of water between alcoholic drinks so you can keep your cool. You want to have a good time and make sure your date has a good time (taking care of you when you're sick all night is bound to be a buzzkill).

3. Mix and mingle.
It can be awkward to be at a wedding where you don't know anyone, so introduce yourself to other guests If you're feeling out of place, remember to smile—everyone wants to get to know the girl with the big smile! You'll send a positive message about your independence by mingling on your own and allowing your date to do the same (guys don't like to feel like they're babysitting you). On the flip side, if he's your plus-one, don't forget to introduce him to guests so he has a few people other than you to talk to.

4. Be fun.
The key word of the night is celebrate. Participate in the dances at the reception, goofy as they might be. How often do you get to limbo or do the electric slide, anyway? Let yourself have fun, and your date will follow suit (or at least be amused). The bride and groom spent months planning their big day and are kind enough to have you and your date there, so get out there and take your date for a twirl.

Who's got a wedding coming up this summer? Is your guy bringing you, or are you bringing him?

Emily Blunt's Chic, Sleek Updo: THE Hairstyle to Copy for Summer Brides. Here's the Step-by-Step How-To

$

1-chic-wedding-updo-emily-blunt-0530

I cannot tell you how Emily Blunt looks so calm and well-rested five minutes after having a baby, but I can tell you how to copy the timeless, wedding-ready hairstyle she just wore at the NYC Edge of Tomorrow premiere. Here's a step-by-step how-to from Laini Reeves, the stylist who created Emily's chic side bun.

2-chic-wedding-updo-emily-blunt-0530

1. First, I prepped Emily’s wet hair with Rene Furterer Vegetal Mousse and gave it a blowout with a soft-bristle round brush to smooth it out and get a sleek finish.

2. After misting hair with Rene Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray, using a soft-bristle flat brush, I brushed the hair into a low side part, brushing hair over to the right side.

3. Next, I secured the ponytail with a hair band. I lightly sprayed the hair with Rene Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray for extra hold and used a small amount of Rene Furterer Styling Wax to smooth any flyaways. When styling your own look, always make sure everything is perfect before preparing the bun.

4. To create texture, I lightly back-combed the ponytail, making the hair easier to secure. I then sprayed it again to add more hold.

5. I twisted the ponytail at the nape of the neck behind the ear into a bun and secured it with bobby pins. To finish, I sprayed the bun one last time with Rene Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray for lasting hold.

Thoughts on Emily Blunt's chic, sleek updo? Would you copy it for your wedding?

Charlize Theron and Sean Penn—and 6 More Celebrity Couples Who Are Totally Going to Be Engaged Soon

Sources spilled to Us Weekly that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn "absolutely want to get married," and I couldn't agree more. (You know, based on all their canoodling about town and my psychic powers in the realm of celebrity engagements.) So with their impending engagement in mind, I was inspired to gaze into my crystal ball for a few more names of soon-to-be engaged celebs. Here's who made the list. (And for those of you who are keeping score, four of the eight couples from my last list are engaged, which means I'm batting .500. If I were a baseball player or a weatherwoman, I'd basically be a legend.)

CHARLIZE THERON & SEAN PENN

The couple of eight months also "want to grow their family," according to Us. For now, they're taking family vacations with her two-year-old son, Jackson.

ROSE BYRNE & BOBBY CANNAVALE
rose-byrne-bobby-cannavale-engaged-engagement-engagement-rings-celebrity-weddings-0602
Who else remembers Bobby calling Rose "the love of my life" when he won an Emmy Award last September? (Anyone who was watching the Emmys, I'm guessing!)

NICOLE SCHERZINGER & LEWIS HAMILTON

The Pussycat Doll and the Formula One driver have hit bumps in their eight-year relationship, but they've seemed nothing but happy taking their romance all over Europe the past few months. Last stop: Venice.

JOE JONAS & BLANDA EGGENSCHWILER
4-joe-jonas-blanda-eggenschwiler-engaged-engagement-engagement-rings-rings-celebrity-weddings-1018
These two are a carryover from my last list, so I'm sure an engagement announcement is imminent. They were recently spotted at the wedding of Stella Ivory and Carl Gambino; I posted about the bride's red wedding dress here.

PIPPA MIDDLETON & NICO JACKSON
pippa-middleton-nico-jackson-engaged-engagement-ring-engagement-rings-celebrity-weddings-1218
My royal sources are telling me that these two might already be engaged. (I told you back in April that this duo is in it for the long haul.) I still haven't spotted an engagement ring, but you better believe I'm checking.

LENA DUNHAM & JACK ANTONOFF

We already have the deets on Lena's dream wedding, and I think Jack might be the guy she's sidling up to the pasta bar with. (Tofurkey and stuffing, anyone?)

LADY GAGA & TAYLOR KINNEY

Based on the number of cute puppy photos these two share on Instagram (lots!), I'd say they have a long future together. (Because puppy snaps are a predictor of such things, obviously.)

Thoughts on my latest round of predictions? Which of these celebrity couples do you think will get engaged? And which do you think are headed for Splitsville?

Here's Lauren Conrad's Exact Wedding Playlist. (So Great for Your Reception—or Any Summer Party You Want to Be a Dance Party)

$

The most fun wedding receptions are the ones that turn into huge dance parties. I know this, and Lauren Conrad knows this, which is why she enlisted her DJ friend Jilly Hendrix to help her compile a kick-ass dance mix for her wedding reception. Here are seven songs from her playlist that will make your summer wedding—or any summer party—super fun.

  • "Summer" by Calvin Harris
  • "Girlfriend" by Icona Pop
  • "Problem" by Ariana Grande
  • "Ready for Your Love" by Gorgon City
  • "Marry You" by Bruno Mars
  • "Of the Night" by Bastille
  • "Waiting All Night (Feat. Ella Eyre)" by Rudimental

Keep in mind that these are probably songs for later in the night. While the parents and grandparents are still there, you should probably mix in some classics like "September" and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" so you don't scare the grown-ups off the dance floor.

Click here to read more songs from Lauren's playlist. And click here to listen to it now. (Just keep in mind that you'll probably start chair dancing, which can get a little awkward at your 9-to-5.)

What songs are on your summer playlist? Would you play these songs at your wedding reception?

Summertime means lots of beaches, bikinis, and, um, being a wedding guest. With June being one of the most popular months to wed, you probably have a few weddings to attend in the coming weeks. To the rescue: Enough less-than-$50 dresses to see you through wedding season. Because the only thing worse than listening to the best man give a 20-minute speech full of "bro" jokes is wearing the same dress to back-to-back-to-back weddings all summer.

Obviously not all of these dresses would work for every wedding, but you're smart enough to use your judgement—or refer to our handy wedding dress code translator. (Tiki formal? WTF?)

Oh, and not all the prices are showing up as less than $50 in our shop-a-majammy, but if you click through, a bunch are on sale.

Are you going to a ton of weddings this summer? Would you wear any of the dresses above?

Kim Kardashian's Not Wearing a Wedding Ring—but Kanye Is. Go Figure

Kim Kardashian landed at LAX this weekend without two significant things: her new husband and a wedding ring. Naturally I went into immediate hand-stalking mode. Here's a close-up of the right and the left:

2-kim-kardashian-wedding-ring-pictures-0603

Yup, no ring-sies. Kanye, on the other hand {Ha! Pun intended. } rocked a shiny new gold band in NYC today. (You can click here to see a pic of Kanye West's wedding ring. I never would have guessed he'd go for something so low-key, given that he has a set of diamonds for his teeth.)

Obviously not every married girl opts to wear a wedding ring: Some girls like the way their engagement ring looks solo and others don't want the extra bulk. I'm just surprised that noted bling-lover Kim—whose engagement ring weighs in at a hefty 15 carats—would err on the side of less jewelry. Especially because we know some sort of wedding ring exists, as evidenced by this picture.

What do you make of Kim Kardashian's missing wedding ring? Would you ever wear just an engagement ring even after you were married?

8 Things Your Wedding Guests Want in Their Welcome Bags—and 1 Thing to Know Before You Start Assembling Them

$
0
0

If most of your wedding guests will need to book a hotel stay to attend your wedding, I think it's nice to leave them a welcome bag with little treats. Here are eight things I love to find waiting for me at the hotel:

  • bottled water I'm all for reusable water bottles in everyday life, but I find hotel tap water generally tastes weird.
  • booze Nothing gets the party started like a tiny bottle of champagne, IMO.
  • a note with an itinerary Just a quick "we're psyched to party with you" and "be in the lobby at 5:30 P.M. today," etc.
  • a list of local attractions If your guests have never been to North Stonington, Conn., {where I got married! } let them know where to get a decent cup of coffee or a good lobster roll.
  • Advil Rory's actually allergic, but I still prefer Advil to Tylenol, which can be bad for your kidneys if you have alcohol in your system.
  • something salty and something sweet Potato chips and M&M's are the perfect late-night combo, IMO.
  • something local If there's a nearby bakery with famous brownies, throw one in. (This could also count as your "something sweet," obviously.)
  • something "you" When Petra got married, her welcome bags had Toms of Maine products in them. So cute! (She grew up in Maine, if that wasn't abundantly clear.)

I don't think you need to spring for fancy customized fabric gift bags for your guests. As much as you'd love a bag with your name and wedding date, I'm guessing your guests would prefer carrying something generic after the fact. Or you could save money and use paper gift bags, which work just as well. We used cardboard boxes with handles, like these, because, as I've mentioned, I worked for Martha Stewart when I got married, so obviously everything involving my wedding had to be as complicated as possible.

One thing to keep in mind before you start assembling welcome bags: Some hotels will charge a delivery fee—as much as $7 a bag—to get the bags to your guests' room. (This is especially true if the hotel doesn't have space to store the bags at reception and can't hand them out upon arrival.) One way to get around the fee is to deliver the bags yourself, but that's probably not something you want to be dealing with the day before your wedding. You could ask a friend to help you out, of course, but you'd have to do so very sweetly and then thank that person profusely. (Maybe with a nice bottle of wine or a pedicure gift certificate.) Remember: bridesmaids =/= actual maids.

Do you like getting a welcome bag at a wedding? Will you give them to your wedding guests? Or do you think they're a waste of money?

Royal Engagement Ring #tbt: 4 Engagement Rings Worn by Princesses

In addition to landing a real live prince and, I assume, a bunch of tiaras, all four of these women, who are now royalty, scored a super-pretty engagement ring. Some girls get all the luck.

Engagement Ring 1: Princess Marie of Denmark
1-princess-engagement-rings-0605Prince Joachim of Denmark proposed to Marie Cavallier in September of 2007.

Engagement Ring 2: Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, Princess of Asturias
2-princess-engagement-rings-0605Felipe, Prince of Asturias, proposed in September of 2003 with a 16-baguette diamond engagement ring with a white gold trim, which she now wears on her right hand.

Engagement Ring 3: Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark
3-princess-engagement-rings-0605Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, presented Mary Donaldson with an engagement ring featuring an emerald-cut diamond and two emerald-cut ruby baguettes in October of 2003.

Engagement Ring 4: Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge
4-princess-engagement-rings-0605Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in October of 2010 during a 10-day trip to Kenya with the engagement ring that had belonged to his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.

I'm just going to point out here that all these women are princesses by marriage, not birth. (I didn't mention that in my post on princess wedding dresses, and someone wrote to inform me that I was "the laughingstock of the royal wedding blogging community." Ouch.) And also, I know "princess" isn't Kate's formal title, but I learned it's OK to call her a princess because she's married to a prince, as indicated by Prince George's birth certificate. Look at us learn! And you thought Save the Date was just a place to stare at pretty dresses. (Speaking of, you can click each princess's name for a wedding day photo.)

Which of these royal engagement rings is your favorite?

I adore Letizia's ring. (And her wardrobe!) So chic.

4 Awesome Wedding DIYs Even Non-Crafty Brides Will Adore

I'm a huge advocate for brides NOT DIYing a damn thing for their weddings. Wedding planning is stressful enough! That said, there's something about planning a wedding that leaves most brides itching to hand-stitch their own wedding gown from home-grown fairy wings or fold 1,000 origami cranes for ceremony decorations. So if you must have a do-it-yourself element, here are four projects that won't make your head explode. (Which would totally mess up the way your veil fits.)

Gold Ombre Milk Bottles, from $28 for 12.

2-easy-wedding-DIY-projects-0605

Nautical Wine Stoppers, from $14 for 12.

All these projects are from Darby Smart's new collection of wedding crafts, which means they'll send you everything you need to make these projects. (No running from crafts store to crafts store to hunt down high-gloss spray paint or ultra-fine glitter.) All the kits also come with clear instructions, and the site has a calculator to help give you a reasonable idea of how long a project will take to complete, so you (hopefully!) won't sign on for a project that you don't have the bandwidth to complete. So you put in this:

And it tells you this:

(Obviously you don't need bridesmaids to help you complete any of these projects, but I think most brides have a crafty friend or two in their back pocket. Just don't forget the wine!)

Which of these DIYs is your favorite? Are you DIYing anything for your wedding?

Darby Smart sent me a project to try, so I'll be sure to report back with a DIY play-by-play—and pics.
