Savannah Guthrie and Mike Feldman were married over the weekend.

A double dose of happy news on the Today show this A.M.: Co-anchor Savannah Guthrie announced that she married longtime love Mike Feldman—and the newlyweds are also going to be new parents! "I—well, we—are four months pregnant," she said at the desk.

The wedding took place on Saturday near her hometown of Tucson, Arizona, "in the middle of the desert." They had their wedding date set long before they found out she was pregnant, she explained. "It's funny, 'cause we set the wedding date, I bought my dress, and then I found out," she said. "So I've been doing a little praying that I would fit in it, and it all worked out." Based on this shot that she tweeted, I'd say she did!

Thoughts on Savannah Guthrie's surprise wedding—and baby news?

Congrats, kids!

Honeymoon Look 2

Obviously none of these dresses would work for a mega-formal wedding. (Or a bride who plans on wearing bra.) But I adore them for, say, Jessa from Girls.

Would you wear any of these for your wedding dress? How 'bout the last two for your honeymoon?

I couldn't have pulled off the dresses for my wedding, but I totally would've worn the first honeymoon look with something underneath. And this dress is high on my summer wish list. (I adore the stars.)

P.S. "Luxury Boho" is a DO for spring! Here's how to style it.

Ashton Kutcher Asked Mila Kunis' Dad to OK His Proposal. How Do We Feel About This?

It sounds like Ashton Kutcher is dad-approved. People is reporting that the Two and a Half Men star asked for Mila Kunis' dad blessing before proposing earlier this year.

"He talked with Mila's dad around Christmastime," an insider told People. "He asked for Mark's blessing to marry her. It was important to Ashton to be respectful and traditional. This is the real thing for him, and he wants to do it all right."

Obviously Mila's a grown-up self-sufficient woman and doesn't need anyone's permission to marry Ashton—or the mailman, for that matter. But I think it's kind of nice that Ashton asked. Rory asked both of my parents (they're divorced) before proposing, and that made me really happy. Not because I needed my parents to approve our relationship—I knew my parents loved him, and obviously I did (and still do!) too. But I like that he sort of acknowledged how important my family is to me by making my parents a part of the next step of our relationship, if that makes sense. Of course I still would've said yes if he hadn't asked, but I'm glad that he did.

Did your guy ask for your dad's permission before proposing? Or do you want him to? Does your dad expect a guy to come to him first?

4 Things a Bride CAN'T Ask Her Bridesmaids to Do. (If She Tries, RUN!)

gorgeous bride + bridesmaid shot

Last week I shared my official list of bridesmaid duties—and the list of jobs bridesmaids can skip. As a follow-up, here are four things a bride should NEVER ask her bridesmaids to do. If she does, proceed with caution. You might have a bridezilla on your hands.

1) Request that you plan and pay for an engagement party. Bridesmaids traditionally pay for and plan the shower and bachelorette party. If the bride and groom want an engagement party, they need to tap their parents or plan it themselves.

2) Ask you to change your physical appearance. A bride can't ask you to drop five pounds or touch up your roots for her wedding day.

3) Ask that you not change your physical appearance. To that end, she can't ban pre-wedding bridesmaid haircuts, dye jobs, or tattoos. (Did I want any of my bridesmaids walking down the aisle with bright-blue hair? Eh, no. But if one had decided she needed a radical change, I would've rolled with it.)

4) Demand a huge bridal shower or a destination bachelorette party. If the bridesmaids are hosting the events, they get to dictate the size of the guest list, the location, and the "fancy" factor. If they can afford Sunday brunch at one of their homes, that's what the bride gets—even if she wants a country club party.

What else CAN'T a bride ask her bridesmaids to do? Did I miss anything?

The Pretty New Twist on Mason Jars That You Totally Want for Your Spring or Summer Wedding

$

There's a reason mason jars have been insanely popular at weddings for the past few years: They're a little offbeat and a little less fussy than plain vases. And they're cheap—around $2.50 each for quart-size Ball jars, and even less for pint-size. So it's understandably tempting to order a bunch when you're planning a wedding. Except that mason jars feel SO "done."

But wait! There's a fun new twist that I think spring and summer brides will love: spring green Ball jars.

SO pretty!

They also come in a lovely blue color, but I'm really digging the green. (Those ranunculus are on my window sill right now!)

Would you use mason jars at your wedding? Are you a fan of the new spring green jars?

How to Eat and Drink Your Way to Glowing Wedding Day Skin

$

brides-logo

The foundation to a flawless wedding day beauty look? Perfect skin. To help ensure you look picture perfect when you say "I Do," we spoke to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, or as we like to call him, the glowing skin care guru.

winter-dry-skin-tip

We're devotees of his namesake skin care line, and he's published nine books on the importance of diet to achieving gorgeous skin. Here, he shares what you should (and shouldn't) be eating and drinking to get a luminous glow just in time for your wedding.

Brides: In a perfect world, if brides-to-be could eat and drink only the most beautifying skin foods, what would their diet look like?

Dr. Nicholas Perricone: Follow the anti-inflammatory diet, which consists of food and beverages that help maintain normal levels of insulin and blood sugar. Go for high-quality protein, such as fish, shellfish, poultry, and tofu. Salmon, halibut, trout, and other cold-water fish give skin a great glow, as does taking at least three capsules of omega-3 fish oil supplements per day. Stick to low-glycemic carbohydrates such as colorful, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and legumes. Don't go fat-free — that will ensure a dull, dry complexion — but eat healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds, and olive oil. Drink antioxidant-rich beverages such as green tea and six to eight glasses of pure spring water per day.

Brides: So the eight-glasses-of-water rule really is true, then?

DNP: Six to eight. Water maintains moisture in the body, naturally suppresses the appetite and helps the body metabolize stored fat. An increase in water intake reduces fat deposits, and vice versa.

Brides: How far from the wedding date should a bride start her glowing-skin diet?

DNP: The earlier you start the better you'll look! For at least a week before the big day, avoid all sugary, starchy foods, and follow the anti-inflammatory diet guidelines.

Brides: If busy brides can't follow this plan to a T, is sugar the most important thing to avoid?

DNP: Sugar, anything processed, baked goods, sodas, and juices make skin look dull and pasty. If you crave something sweet besides fresh fruit, choose dark chocolate that's at least 70 percent cocoa. Pure, unsweetened cocoa powder that's not Dutch processed is the best way to get the benefits. Sprinkle it on yogurt and berries or try Mexican mole sauce if you want chocolate during the main course.

Brides: Is juice cleansing another way to get wedding-ready skin?

DNP: It's better to eat the fruit or vegetable, but smoothies made with fresh vegetables are great sources of nutrients, especially when combined with Green Magma, which is the powdered juice of young green barley. It gives you the probiotics and antioxidants that strengthen the skin. Green foods are also powerful detoxifying agents.

Brides: True or false: Green apples are better for your skin than red?

DNP: Green apples have less sugar and more antioxidants. But both green and red apple consumption is associated with increased weight loss. Quercetin, a fortifying flavonoid found in apples, calms sensitive skin. Choose organic apples so you can eat the skin, which is where many nutrients are found.

Brides: Is there anything brides can do lifestyle-wise to supplement an anti-inflammatory diet?

DNP: Exercise will help. Studies have shown athletes' skin is thicker; it has more and healthier collagen. Also, when we work up a good sweat, we cleanse the skin of environmental toxins. I recommend aerobic exercise and some kind of resistance training such as Pilates, yoga, or light weights. One of the best-kept anti-aging secrets is a good night's sleep. It's during those precious hours that our cells repair damage and one of the best friends a glowing, youthful complexion can have.

Brides, We Hereby Grant You Permission to Break This Cardinal Wedding Makeup Rule

I'm sure our friend Sejal doesn't wear glossy red lips like this every day—but they sure look gorgeous on her as a wedding look.

Second to the cliche term "blushing bride," there's no beauty-related phrase we hear more in relation to weddings than: "You want to look like yourself on your wedding day!" It's a piece of wedding makeup advice that we constantly read in magazines and on wedding blogs and hear from hair and makeup pros and our moms and our bridesmaids etc. etc. etc.—but the thing is, I find this piece of bridal-beauty wisdom kind of annoying. And I think you should feel free to totally ignore it.

What does this advice really mean, when you stop to think about it? Don't try anything too daring with your makeup on your wedding day, and don't pile on too much of it—I think that's what people are getting at.

OK, but duh, of course you don't want to look completely unrecognizable to your groom under layers of costumey makeup. Not overdoing your makeup is generally a goal, whether you're getting married or not.

And sure, a very natural, believable makeup look works best for many brides and is what they feel most comfortable in. But if you're usually a makeup minimalist and are drawn to the idea of a smoky eye, tons of shimmer, a major bright lip, or some other statement makeup look for your wedding, I say, what better day in life is there for you to just GO for it?

The truth is, you don't look like yourself on your wedding day. You're probably wearing one of the fanciest and most expensive gowns you'll ever put on your body. You might be in the best shape of your entire life and may have spent hundreds of dollars on skin prep treatments and a flawless spray-tan glow. Your brows are plucked to perfection. You're wearing four-inch designer heels (if you're lucky...and brave). So why shouldn't your makeup also be uncharacteristically glamorous?

I think you should stay as open-minded about your wedding makeup as you did to dresses when you first started looking. Just as maybe you never though you'd wear a poufy ball gown but fell in love with the one your mom forced you to try on, maybe you're a minimal-makeup girl who is just destined to wear memorable retro liquid eyeliner on your wedding day. If it feels right to you when you try it on and makes you feel pretty and happy, you should do it. This is a day to express yourself, not be shy!

Do you guys agree? Do you think it's better to stick close to your everyday makeup look for your wedding or to go ahead and try something totally new, if that's what you're craving?

Here are three more beauty rules brides should go ahead and break!

3 Caribbean Islands Perfect for a Destination Wedding

$

I never thought that I would consider a destination wedding someday (emphasis on the "someday" as, uh, I'm not even close to being engaged), but the older I get—and the more beach vacations I take—the more I totally understand how a couple would want to start their life together on such a romantic, stress-free note. With that in mind, here are three easy-to-get-to islands (and a range of resorts on each) that would make for a dream destination wedding.

bahamas-atlantis-wedding

Atlantis Paradise Island

Island #1: The Bahamas
I've been to both Nassau and Paradise Island, and every resort I've visited had incredible service—so I can only imagine how phenomenal they'd be with something as important as your wedding. The islands are all close to the U.S. mainland, which makes it an easy plane ride away for most people.
bahamas-one-and-only-pool

One&Only Ocean Club

Some Resorts to Consider:
Atlantis Paradise Island: A massive resort so large, you're guaranteed to have enough rooms for everybody. Plus, there are amenities galore, including a huge water park, dozens of different restaurants, and the luxury tower the Cove, which features an adults-only pool. There's also a brand-new seaside customizable venue dedicated only to weddings called Ocean's Edge.
Sandals Royal Bahamian: Like the Atlantis, it also has lots of rooms (and will work out a deal if you're traveling with a large-enough group), amenities, and customizable wedding options available to you, but with, in my opinion, a more intimate setting. Plus, it's all-inclusive. And who wants to worry about carrying a purse or wallet on a wedding weekend? It has its own private island, where, yes, you can get married.

bahamas-sandals-island

Sandals' private island

One&Only Ocean Club: If money is no object, you can't get more luxurious (or private) than the upscale One&Only. Dune, the Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant, sits overlooking the ocean and would make for a memorable rehearsal dinner. Have your ceremony at the Augustinian Cloister, actual arches from the 12th century that stand at the top of the gorgeous Versailles Gardens.
Graycliff: Get the Bahamas experience but with an old-school, boutique vibe. Built by a pirate in the 1700s, Graycliff has a hotel, pool, two restaurants, a cigar company, a private airport lounge for guests, and one of the largest collections of wine in the world. Even if you don't plan your wedding reception there, it's great for a rehearsal dinner. Beyonce and Jay Z stop by to eat whenever they're in Nassau, NBD.

Island #2: Turks and Caicos
With its excellent snorkeling and gorgeous beaches, Turks and Caicos has a lot to offer both you and your wedding guests.
grace-bay-club-turks-and-caicos

Grace Bay Club

Some Resorts to Consider:
Grace Bay Club: Whether you're planning a wedding for just the two of you or 120 guests, Grace Bay Club offers several locations—including Grace Bay Beach, a gazebo, a private catamaran, or an uninhabited cay—and three exclusive wedding packages to chose from. You can also add special wedding components like a private sunset cruise or a live processional with a traditional Caribbean junkanoo band.
Beaches Turks and Caicos: Beaches offers all-inclusive destination wedding packages and is open to all ages (unlike Sandals, which is adults only). It also offers Family Moons, a ceremony that unites two families.

beaches-turks-and-caicos

Beaches

Amanyara: Travel Channel included this as one of the best all-inclusive resorts of 2014 for a reason—it's a great retreat, and couples can relax with a spa day, a private dinner on the beach, and more.

island #3: Puerto Rico
When the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills visited Joyce's home island of Puerto Rico this season, they totally got caught up in their usual fights—but I can't imagine how anybody could be so unhappy somewhere so beautiful! If it had been me, I would have left the drama behind and headed straight to the beach. Plus, no passport needed!

wyndham-puerto-rico-wedding

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar

Some Resorts to Consider:
Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa: Wedding ceremony locations include palm-tree-lined ocean views, private gardens, or a large ocean-view ballroom. Customizable wedding packages start at $1,499, and there's an on-site team to help plan and execute the big day.
The W Retreat and Spa—Vieques Island: On Vieques, eight miles off the Puerto Rico coast, brides (and their guests) can enjoy two on-site beaches (one of which is adults-only), as well as other amenities including the Away Spa and a new restaurant, Sorcy. Also, the property recently launched a partnership with an LGBT planner for same-sex couples.
The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort: If you're looking for extraordinary service, the butler service at the St. Regis is exceptional. And the amenities offer a lot for guests too: hiking trails running along 483-acres of nature reserve, the Remede Spa, an ocean-front golf course, and a Jean-George restaurant, Fern. Also, designer Lela Rose teamed up with the St. Regis to offer brides exclusive gowns, starting at $6,000, inspired by the resort.

Maybe the theme of Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross's engagement party was "statement pieces"? Otherwise I can't explain why she wore a feather headdress and...is that a burnout velvet curtain?! And he picked a giant man fur. I mean, the man IS Diana Ross's son, so maybe he got dressed in her closet. And picked up his floaty, pirate-sleeve shirt from Captain Hook's.

Here's the snap Ashlee shared on Twitter:

Let's go in for a closer look.

Huh. It doesn't seem like anyone else is dressed for a costume party.

Big sis Jess (not wearing a period piece) Insta'd this shot, with the caption: "Celebrating my best friend and sister @missbananahammock @ashleesimpsonofficial. I love her so much!"

The collection includes eight styles, all available in seven colors. Ivory silk wedding dresses range from $518 to $588, and bridesmaids dresses (also cute for wedding guests!) range from $198 to $368.

Once the label's brand-new site goes live—sometime today—we should be able to get a better look at all of this pretty. (I want to get up close and personal with that dark floral number.)

Obviously these dresses aren't going to work for every bride, bridesmaid, or wedding—but they're exactly what you need if the vibe you're going for is "boho elegant."

Thoughts on Reformation's first-ever wedding collection? Which wedding dress do you like best? And which of the bridesmaid dresses is your favorite?

I'm very much looking forward to the day when I can leave my home wearing that little fabric!

(And, yes, I know I owe you some wedding dresses that can be worn with a bra! Stay tuned.)

Look, I love a poufy flower-girl tutu as much as the next wannabe ballerina. But not every young lady wants to slip into a dress that resembles a cloud of cotton candy. Which is why I adore this flower girl's Breakfast at Tiffany's-inspired getup. It's so unexpected—but still majorly adorable.

I'm not sure what the twisted thing in the bottom right is, but if she got to ride down the aisle on a stick unicorn, she wins flower girl-ing forever.

Would you put your flower girl in a Breakfast at Tiffany's-inspired outfit?

I would have killed—KILLED—to wear that instead of, say, this:

Is It OK for Bridesmaids to Wear White?

$
0
0

Pippa Middleton looked incredible in her white, floor-length bridesmaid dress. But can you do the same? Or will you not stand out if the entire bridal party is dressed in white? Brides' wedding etiquette experts are here to answer your bridesmaid dress questions.

pippa-middleton-royal-wedding

Can my bridesmaids wear white dresses? The look is so chic and elegant, but my mom thinks I won't stand out in my gown.

Definitely, yes! More and more brides are taking cues from Kate Middleton and outfitting their bridesmaids in white. Clean, crisp white always looks chic and the color (or non-color, really) is universally flattering. Plus, white is so versatile and works for every type of wedding, from a breezy beach bash to a preppy country-club celebration.

As for your mom's concerns, no matter what the bridesmaids wear, you will always stand out—you are the bride, after all. It's not like they'll have trains and veils! That being said, there are several ways to help set you apart from your attendants. If you are wearing a floor-length gown, choose a knee-length style for your girls. Or, if you prefer long dresses, choose one in a more casual fabric, like flow-y jersey or lightweight chiffon, which will set them apart from you in your much more formal wedding gown. Also, think about choosing a different neckline—if your dress is strapless, then opt for a bridesmaid dress that is one-shouldered or a V-neck. As long as you give distinct visual cues, there's no way anyone will confuse one of your 'maids as the bride!

When she was vacationing in Guatamala last week, it looks like Lauren Conrad took the bling factor down a notch. Notice anything missing?

I'm guessing LC left her engagement ring—a round diamond solitaire, click here for a photo—back in Laguna Beach. Lots of women I know don't travel with their engagement rings either. I think Lauren's placeholder ring features itty-bitty diamonds, but it might just be a plain band.

Thoughts on Lauren Conrad's placeholder ring? Do you leave your engagement ring behind when you travel?

I have a really lovely hammered rose-gold band I wore while I was pregnant and my fingers were too swollen for my rings.

So, ladies, my first wedding of the 2014 wedding season is next week. I'll just be a guest, not a bridesmaid, but naturally I still plan to use the occasion to test out a wedding hairstyle for you guys (a la the Taylor Swift braided bun I once copied in 15 minutes in a hotel bathroom). While I'm at it, I'm also going to have my sister-in-law Jessica test a different hairstyle for you, because her hair is much longer and thicker than mine, and she's going to the same wedding. And because a beauty blogger's relative's job is never done.

So here's what we need to do today: Tell me—when you think about the weddings on your calendars this spring and summer, what hairstyle ideas pop into your mind? Is there something you've seen on celebrities or on Pinterest lately that you're dying to DIY?

Here are a few options to get you started. Jess was thinking about wearing her hair wavy and pushed all to one side. That's such a fun trend, right?

But part of me wants to force her to try Jessica Alba's glam Met Gala braided topknot instead (I don't think my hair's long enough).

Or this longtime favorite hairstyle idea in my "files" would look SO pretty on her.

As for me: My hair's shoulder-length, so some kind of mini-updo would be fun. My dress is light blue and lacy-girly.

Maybe something with a cute little bump in back?

Or—not to trot out Jessica Alba again—this soft updo?

But we're totally open to ideas! So let me know: Which hairstyles should we try out for you next week? Post your descriptions and/or links below, and we'll pick our favorites to feature here soon!

I don't know much about 2 Broke Girls, but when I saw Kat Dennings shared an on-set snap of herself and guest star Lindsay Lohanboth in wedding dresses—obviously I needed to know more. Here's the Insta pic, which was captioned: "Shit gets real in upcoming episodes of 2 Broke Girls."

I instantly recognized Kat's dress: It's style VW351162 from White by Vera Wang, Vera's line for David's Bridal.

So I poked around the site and—ta da!—came up with Lindsay's dress too: style SWG624 from the Galina Signature line.

So there you have it. The episode featuring LiLo and the dresses airs on Monday, April 14, if you're watching.

Amber Heard's two engagement rings had Save the Date readers scratching our heads. Following her engagement to Johnny Depp, she's been spotted with a not-too-huge diamond on a single-shank band and a baseball-size diamond in a split-shank setting.

So Johnny Depp went ahead and cleared up that little mystery for us: The engagement ring he proposed with was "too big for her, so he started wearing it," a source tells Us Weekly. And the proof is in the picture—of Johnny in Beijing today.

Let's go in for a closer look, with Johnny's hand side by side with his bride's:

Yep, samesies.

The AP is reporting that when Johnny was pressed on whether he and Amber were engaged, he replied: "The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle." So there you have it.

Of course, one might ask my Johnny didn't just have the original ring sized down, but I guess when you're a quadrillionaire, diamond rings are like ring pops.

Thoughts on Johnny Depp's diamond man-gagement ring?

Whatever floats your boat, captain. If anyone's pulling it off, it's Johnny Depp!
