New Reem Acra Wedding Dresses: Nearly Nude Illusion Bodices, High-Voltage Sparkle, and Umbrella Veils. Naturally

0
0

Reem Acra ALWAYS makes my jaw hit the floor with her drop-dead gorgeous wedding dresses—and her wackadoo accessories. (See the supersize tiaras from the fall 2012 runway and the animal ear veils from two seasons before that.) This year was no exception: Many of her newest wedding dresses went down the runway with umbrella veils!

There were also LOADS of dresses with nearly nude illusion bodices—which make puritanical lil' ol' me blush but are getting more and more popular by the second—and tons of dresses with megawatt sparkle, for brides who want to turn heads without showing off their ladybits.

Which one of these wedding dresses is your favorite?

If I were going short, I'd TOTALLY wear No. 1! (Sans umbrella veil, please.)

P.S. The illusion bodices were all lined, so you couldn't see actual ladybits, but I don't even like the idea of the "illusion" of my naked torso showing!

When you go to a Monique Lhuillier runway show, you expect to see gorgeous lace. That's just what Monique DOES. But Monique had a few more tricks up her sleeve with her spring 2014 collection, including short and midlength wedding dresses, and lots and lots of dresses with capes and wraps—a HUGE trend this season.

Attending a Bridal Shower or Bachelorette? Here's Some Splurge-Worthy Honeymoon "Lingerie" That the Bride Will Actually Wear

0
0

Honeymoon lingerie is a hugely popular bridal shower and bachelorette party gift, which I find a little awkward. I mean, when else in your adult life are people buying you underwear? And not just a pair of cotton boyshorts—little tiny pieces of satin and sheer silk that are supposed to constitute "underwear" but look more like a giant wedgie or a wardrobe-malfunction-in-the-making to me. And the worst part is, people spend a LOT of money to gift the bride with sexy little somethings that she may never wear. (I certainly wasn't going to parade around in the little costumes people gifted me!) So if you know the bride isn't the type to put on a lingerie show, why not splurge on items she'll actually use, like this cuteness from Sleepy Jones.

1-wedding-lingerie-the-bride-actually-wants-skippy-jones-0429

Tauba Shorts, $54.

2-wedding-lingerie-the-bride-actually-wants-skippy-jones-0429

Alex Tank Top, $34.

3-wedding-lingerie-the-bride-actually-wants-skippy-jones-0429

Louise Shrunken Robe, $154.

4-wedding-lingerie-the-bride-actually-wants-skippy-jones-0429

Isabel Dot Socks, $24.

Obviously the items above are spendy and you could pull together a similar (albeit lower-quality) ensemble from Target. But my point is, guests SPEND on bridal shower and bachelorette party gifts, so they might as well spend on something the bride will actually wear. I mean, I'd probably never spring for $54 boxer shorts for myself, but people definitely spent more than that on thong-and-triangle-bra sets for me that never saw the light of day, so I GLADLY would have taken the super-posh boxers and worn them to threads, ya know?

Would you like to receive this stuff as the bride, or do want the sexy stuff for your bridal shower and bachelorette?

I'd much rather buy stuff the bride will actually wear! (And I'd LOVE to receive this stuff!)

New Carolina Herrera Wedding Dresses: Prints, Patterns, and Texture Made the Runway Look Like a Pretty Party

It's easy for a bride to look one-dimensional when she's wearing head-to-toe white, so Carolina Herrera made sure to mix things up on her runway with loads of gorgeous wedding dresses with prints, patterns, and texture!

6 Gifts That Raise a Glass to Your Mother-in-Law on Mother's Day! (If You Really, Really Love Your Mother-in-Law)

0
0

I think it's primarily the groom's gift to buy presents for his family members, regardless of the holiday {The exception at our house is Christmas, when everyone buys gifts for everyone. }, but if your mother-in-law (or future mother-in-law) has been extra sweet to you this year, there's no reason you can't spring for a gift on your own for Mother's Day. (Or at least point your groom in the right direction!) Here are six ways to raise a glass to your mother-in-law on Mother's Day, plus add-on gifts if she's been extra-extra-good!

Mother's Day Gift 1: Latte Mug With Fancy Coffee
1-mothers-day-gifts-for-your-mother-in-law-cheap-gifts04529

Rain Drop Latte Mug from Etsy seller sproutstudio, $22.

Mother's Day Gift 2: Shot Glasses With Top-Shelf Booze
2-mothers-day-gifts-for-your-mother-in-law-cheap-gifts04529

DIY Shot Glasses by Feathers & Freckles.

Mother's Day Gift 3: Water Bottle With Fun Gym Gear
3-mothers-day-gifts-for-your-mother-in-law-cheap-gifts04529

I have a glass and silicone water bottle and I LOVE it! I'd gift this one with cute headbands or fancy gym socks! BKR Silicone + Glass Water Bottle in Betty, $28.

Mother's Day Gift 4: Champagne Flutes With Festive Bubbly
4-mothers-day-gifts-for-your-mother-in-law-cheap-gifts04529

Firecracker Flutes from BHLDN, $60.

Mother's Day Gift 5: Vintage Teacups With Yum-Tastic Tea
5-mothers-day-gifts-for-your-mother-in-law-cheap-gifts04529

Vintage Pink Depression-Era Glass Teacups from Etsy seller TheZoeBird, $70.

Mother's Day Gift 6: Wine Glasses With a Summery White
6-mothers-day-gifts-for-your-mother-in-law-cheap-gifts04529

Yes, I know these are technically whiskey glasses, but I love a stemless, heavy-bottom glass for wine. (Less spillage!) Wine Enthusiast Madison Avenue 2-Piece Whiskey Glass Set from Kohl's, $34.99.

Obviously not every mom does shots (though you should see my friend Dave's mom and a bottle of tequila) or drinks tea, so you'd have to pick the most appropriate drink for the mom you're buying for. But every mom drinks SOMETHING, right?!

Which of these gifts would you buy for your mother-in-law for Mother's Day? How 'bout your mom?

Twilight's Ashley Greene Was a Bridesmaid Over the Weekend! Wanna See Pics?

Here's a pic of Ashley-Greene-as-Alice-Cullen serving as Kristen-Stewart-as-Bella-Swan's bridesmaid in Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 1, as a teaser. What, you didn't think I was going to give up the goods right away, did you?!

It's comforting to know that even celebs get stuck wearing magenta bridesmaid dresses. Although somehow Twilight's Ashley Greene defied the laws of looking good and kind of killed it in this floor-length, Empire-waist frock.

2-twilights-ashley-greene-bridesmaid-dresses-0429

Not fair, right?

3-twilights-ashley-greene-bridesmaid-dresses-0429

Both of these pics were snapped by the bride's makeup artist and posted on Instagram a little while ago, so I'm not 100 percent sure the wedding was over the weekend, but you get the idea.

And, yes, it's driving me 50 shades of insane that I can't figure out who designed this bridesmaid dress, so if you know, PLEASE tell me!

Whew! The dress appears to be Monique Lhuillier bridesmaids, style 450029. Thank you, Save the Date reader Jamie07!

New Marchesa Wedding Dresses: Reminding Us Why Brides Are Still Clamoring for Strapless Wedding Dresses

I know Save the Date readers are all about wedding dresses with straps and sleeves, but every industry expert I've ever asked says that strapless wedding dresses are still outselling their strapped and sleeved counterparts. Big-time. And when I see strapless wedding dresses like these four, from Marchesa's runway show, I totally remember why.

Mariah Carey Dressed Up Like a Princess and Renewed Her Vows in Disneyland. (Yes, Nick Cannon Was Dressed Like a Prince.) I Am Not OK With This

1-mariah-carey-nick-cannon-renew-wedding-vows-in-disneyland-celebrity-weddings

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon celebrated their five-year anniversary in a MAJOR way last night: The couple dressed up like a prince and princess (their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, had matching outfits) and said "I do" all over again at Disneyland in front to 250 guests.

2-mariah-carey-nick-cannon-renew-wedding-vows-in-disneyland-celebrity-weddings

This continues the annual vow renewal tradition for the couple, who last year renewed their vows in Paris.

As I pointed out last year: In 2010, People asked Nick why he and Mariah felt the need to say their vows ad nauseam: "Don't everybody do that?" the America's Got Talent host replied. "Don't, like, Heidi Klum and Seal do the same thing every year?" Yeah, and look how that turned out.

My favorite part about Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon renewing their vows is that they got married in 2008, the same year Rory and I did, so we celebrate our anniversaries pretty close to each other every year. And Rory and I STILL haven't felt the itch to renew our vows. Not even once. Never mind five times.

I'm sorry, but I meant "'Till death do us part" the first time I said it. It's not like wedding vows are a library book that need to be renewed periodically. And it's not like renewing your wedding vows is the secret to happily ever after. (Again, see Heidi Klum and Seal.)

As I've said in the past, I guess I'm OK with renewing your vows on a major anniversary—say, 25. But if you're compelled to renew them every single year, it starts to feel like you're trying to prove something. ("Yes, we still love each other! Look at the big spectacle we make announcing how much we love each other!!)

And Nick Cannon, unless you're trying out for Disney on Ice, burn that outfit. You look ridiculous. (Next time, try copycatting a real prince, not Prince Charming. Doofus.)

Thoughts on Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon's vow renewal? Will you renew your wedding vows?

There are also several videos from the day on Mariah's Twitter page, but I didn't feel compelled to share those too.

New Jenny Packham Wedding Dresses: The Whimsical Dresses We Love—Plus, More Structured Designs

I just love it when wedding dress designers surprise me—and Jenny Packham sure did this season! I'm still loving this dress from her Fall 212 collection, which to me is quintessential Jenny Packham: a little whimsical, a little free-spirited, a LOT gorgeous.

A-new-jenny-packham-wedding-dresses-wedding-gowns-spring-2014-bridal-market-0501

So I expected to see wedding dresses like these in her Spring 2014 collection:

7 Ways to Honor Missing Loved Ones at Your Wedding, Whether They've Passed Away or Just Can't Be There

0
0

1-honoring-relatives-who-have-passed-away-wedding-0501

Photo via: Style Me Pretty || Photography: Apertura || Floral + Event Design: Gilly Flowers & Events || Event Coordination: Fancy by Nancy.

Obviously you want to be surrounded by everyone you love on your wedding day, so it sucks when that just can't happen. Here are seven ways to honor the wedding guests that are there in spirit:

Leave a "reserved" seat for missing guests.
In the photo above, there's a computer in front of a beautifully framed photo. (I'm assuming the plan was to Skype in a grandma who couldn't travel.) I think the substantial photo frame is key, so the photo is heavy enough that it won't blow away pre-ceremony. If you're going to Skype, make sure you test, test, and re-test everything beforehand. It sucks to watch a bride and groom sweat when the connection's not working.

Give them a shout-out in the program.
Briefly mention that you're celebrating in your hearts with relatives who can't be there. Brevity is key though. If you write a whole page about your late grandpa, it's just going to bring people down.

Ask your officiant to say a few words.
Again, ask him to keep it short and sweet—and remember, this is a HAPPY occasion.

Display a few of their favorite things.
If the grandma in the photo above had passed away, it would be nice to display a bouquet of her favorite flowers in lieu of the laptop. Or if an extra-special great aunt had a go-to snack, leave a small bowl of gummy bears (or whatever) on the cocktail hour tables, with a discreet note letting people know that they were Aunt Judy's favorite.

Include them in photo displays.
If you're displaying photos from your parents' weddings, go ahead and include photos from several generations.

Mention them in your speech.
If you're going to thank your guests with a speech, say a line or two about missing loved ones, but again, keep it brief. A recently deceased relative will already be the elephant in the room, especially if the circumstances of the death were especially sad. There's no need to dress the elephant in a sequin gown and shine a spotlight on him, if that makes sense.

Make a donation in their honor.
Rather than give your guests a silly trinket as a wedding favor, mention on the program that in lieu of favors, a donation is being in honor of Grandma Lynn to the American Cancer Society. Again, I'd keep the note discreet. I once went to a wedding where there was a paragraph-long note on every place setting explaining that a donation had been made in honor of a bridesmaid's baby who had passed away. Of course it's amazing that the bride and groom made the donation, but when the guests were feeling super-celebratory after the ceremony, having a tear-jerker note at every seat definitely brought everyone down.

As I mentioned earlier, I was at a lunch event with superstar celeb wedding planner Mindy Weiss yesterday. She suggested not listing a deceased parent on the wedding invitation, which couples sometime do, but can be a little off-putting.

Mr. John Smith & the late Mrs. John Smith
invite you to join in the marriage of their daughter
Katie Lee

See what I mean? The late mom isn't throwing the party. It's super-duper sad that she cant' be there, but she just isn't.

Will you have loved ones missing when you celebrate your wedding? How will you honor them?

Rory and I had very few grandparents at our wedding. The ones who weren't there got a mention in the program.

This Real Bride KILLED It in One of My All-Time Favorite Wedding Dresses. Come See!

This Alfred Angelo wedding dress was one of my Top 10 Favorite Dresses from last season, so I was just DYING to see it on a real bride.

I'm happy to report it's just as amazing in real life! Ladies, check out Save the Date reader Emily (aka, hastinator) who said "I do" in this super-fantastic wedding dress.

3-real-bride-alfred-angelo-wedding-dress-wedding-gown-0501

How over-the-top gorgeous does Emily look?

"SO over-the-top gorgeous!" is the only right answer here. I love this dress even more now!

P.S. The dress also comes in ivory-on-ivory, but according to my people at Alfred Angelo, this version of the dress is totally selling!

Haha! Come See a Pic From Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' Totally Amazing, Totally '90s Wedding!

1-kelly-ripa-mark-consuelos-wedding-photo-0502

If Rory and I were going to be "couple friends" with a couple of celebrities, I think it would totally be Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. They're just so adorable. And normal-seeming. And I bet Kelly and I could TOTALLY share shoes. And I love that Kelly's not above being a little bit silly, whether she's being goofy on her morning show or sharing a picture from her wedding. Her totally '90s wedding.

Kelly tweeted this adorableness yesterday, her 17th wedding anniversary:

Let's see if I can get that pic a tiny bit bigger.

2-kelly-ripa-mark-consuelos-wedding-photo-0502

Recognize that hairstyle? I think its proper name is the Donna Martin.

3-kelly-ripa-mark-consuelos-wedding-photo-0502

And her spaghetti-strap dress? Looks EXACTLY like my senior prom dress. And Mark maybe borrowed his black-on-black ensemble directly from Dylan McKay's closet. It's all so fantastic.

Thoughts on Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' '90s-tastic wedding photo? How cute are they? And how insane is it that they've been married for SEVENTEEN years?! Maybe it's because they're based in New York (JUST like Rory and I are!) and not L.A.?

5 Celeb-Inspired Wedding Hairstyles Nobody You Know Has Worn Already

Looking for a wedding hairstyle that's a little more "something new" than "something everyone else you know has already worn to a wedding at some point in time"? Here are some of my favorite head-turning celebrity hairstyles from the past couple months, each of which could be interpreted into a beautiful—and totally unique/memorable—wedding look.

1. A fit-for-a-queen braid crown like Hayden Panettiere's

hayden-pannetierre-white-house-correspondents-dinner-hair-makeup

2. An actual crown, as seen on Emmy Rossum at an Oscars after-party

3. Zoe Saldana's more subtle take on jewels—tucked into a rolled updo

4. A sparkly comb holding back just one side, like Jessica Biel recently wore

5. January Jones' ultra-intricate bohemian braided updo

Would you wear any of these celebrity hairstyles for your wedding? Or do you prefer something a little more traditional?

New Pronovias Wedding Dresses: If You're Looking for a Dress With a To-Die-For Illusion Neckline, Look No Further

I'm worried that illusion-neckline wedding dresses are eventually going to go the way of strapless wedding dresses, in that in five or 10 years, people will be like, "I'm not wearing a wedding dress with an illusion neckline! That's what EVERYONE does!" But with necklines like these—all from Pronovias' latest runway show—who could blame 'em?

Keira Knightley and James Righton Are (Maybe) Having a Secret Wedding This Weekend, and the Bride Is (Possibly) Wearing a Custom Chanel Wedding Dress

0
0

kiera-knightley-james-righton-wedding-secret-married-france-wedding-dresses-wedding-gowns-chanel-0503

There were rumblings in the Daily Mail earlier this week about a possible secret wedding between Keira Knightley and James Righton over the weekend, but since the Daily Mail's sources tend to be about as reliable as the weather, I decided to sit on the "news." But E! is now reporting a similar story, so it's time to share. Here are the alleged deets.

The Daily Mail is saying the pair "are planning to tie the knot in an intimate ceremony near Nice in front of 100 close friends and family members." (When it's an A-lister's wedding 100 = intimate, I guess.) They're also reporting that "Keira, who is the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle fragrance, is rumored to be wearing a custom-made Chanel dress made by creative director Karl Lagerfeld himself." Makes sense.

Read the Daily Mail story here.

E! is guessing that they'll say "I do" at the "quaint" five-bedroom mansion Keira bought about three years ago. The home, which is four hours outside of Marseille, is surrounded by lavender fields and vineyards. From the post: "Keira and her mom, Sharman MacDonald, arrived in France around a week ago, while James was snapped landing down a few days ago. Guests will be flying in over the next few days, our source hears."
